23 month old pulled his foreskin back too far...

and now he is in pain.  i think it happened yesterday because he woke up crying 4 times last night pointing to his penis and saying "owie".  and again today.  i see a place just below the glans where it used to be adhered and now it is really raw looking.  on the nocirc website it says this could cause permanent adhesion requiring surgical seperation because it will heal back together. (!!!!)

what do i do??!!  i am not against using tylenol or something for the pain~ i would guess its painfull to urinate for him.  and now that there is a wound there, should i pull it back for cleaning until it heals?  i never have in the past but now it seems like it would be extra important to avoid infection.  if anyone has experience with this please tell me your experience.  i feel so bad for the little guy!

Keep some A&D or Vasoline on it. It should help prevent it from sticking back and healing that way.

Please post this in the TCAC...they will be able to help. From what I understand, though, you should not pull it back at all. Only the owner of the penis should retract, because only he knows (or quickly learns, as in this case) how far is too far. A single time retraction should not be cause for permanent injury, nor a reason to continue to retraction.  Do you have a foreskin-friendly pediatrician to consult?

A dab of A&D ointment and a daily cool bath should soothe it.  I wouldn't think infection would be any more likely unless there were breaks in the skin - no bleeding right?  My son was forcibly retracted at a very young age thanks to an uneducated doc.  His foreskin and penis were red and looked inflamed for a week.  He is fine now, just retractable a bit earlier than the norm.  Still no special care needed.  With your son, it may re-adhere, but I don't think this would cause a permanent adhesion unless you continue to retract and scar tissue forms.
