Question regarding ordering blood work

Hi Dr. Sears,

I was wondering if it's common practice to order blood work (CBC and lead level) at the 24 month well visit. I remember reading that it's common at the 12 month well visit and wanted to know if it's usually checked yearly. Is this something you order at the 24 month well visit?

I only do it once - around 15 months.

Thanks so much for your reply. Do you feel this is unnecessary to be repeated (CBC and lead)? We live in a house that was bulit in the 1970's but there have been no changes (renovations, etc). in the past year. Do you know if certain states mandate to check lead levels at both 12 and 24 months? I've been trying to research this and am confused. Would the repeat CBC w/diff be checking for anemia? I hate to subject my little one unless truly necessary. Sorry for all the questions.

I can't really comment on if this is necessary.  I don't usually check more than the one time. The CBC checks for anemia. I don't know what the different state mandates are.
