41+6 days! What a relief to give birth!!!

Labor started at 12:30am and he was out at 2:24. It was intense, almost like one long contraction. I pushed for 15 minutes. His hand was on his cheek. For such a quick labor and such a big boy (with a hand on his cheek), I was relieved to hear I had no tears or skid marks!

Stats:

9.7lbs

21" long

He's nursing like a champ and I feel fantastic!

And now dh and I can't decided which spelling of Sander/Xander we like best. We love the look of Xander Leopold but have never been a fan of "x" names. Dh asked me to post a poll. :)

I have a 21-month-old Zander, so Z is an option too!

Between X and S, I'd choose X though. IMO Sander and Xander are two totally different names--like, Sander makes me think of "one who sands" and Xander is a shortened form of Alexander. One thing to keep in mind is with Sander people might nickname him "Sandy," and with Xander they might occasionally mistake him for an "Alexander."  So I guess it depends on what you like better!

We really liked the name Xander too but like you, we were not a fan of X names. We wanted the "Z" sound so we went with Z and have never regretted it. It's a cool, unique name! And other people have no problem with it--in fact, whenever we tell someone his name, they usually ask, "with an X or a Z?"

thanks for your input ladies! We want the "s" sound, would the "x" make it say "z"? (this is looking more like an algebra equation!)

And half our family lives in Europe, where Sander is very common....

I personally have only ever heard Xander pronounced as Zander (as in Alexander). So if the 's' sound is what you're after, I would definitely go with Sander or you'll probably have most people assuming the 'z' sound. Especially if you're not a big fan of X names anyways, may as well go with te spelling that will make your and his life easier

I voted for the S because you mentioned you wanted that sound.  To me, if it's spelled with the X it sounds like Zander...

Congrats on your new baby boy! And definitely if you want the "S" sound go with Sander. Xander is always pronounced with a "Z" sound.

when i first saw the choices, i immediately preferred sander.  and then i saw that you wanted the "s" sound, so i would definitely go with sander.  if people do nickname him sandy (and he doesn't want them to), he can simply say "it's sander".

Oh, I voted before I read that you wanted an 'S' sound... I would definitely go with Sander in that case!  Congrats mama!!!!  That's a lot of baby to love!
