'Rent' just showed up in our mailbox and I'm looking forward to watching it. I imagine I can watch it with my 16 y.o. daughter. Wondering about the 12 y.o. son.
I saw it in 7th or 8th grade, but I was a huge theatre dork. I, personally, wouldnt refrain from showing it to a 12 year old who is pretty knowledgeable about adult life. If he watches regular tc sitcoms or action movies, Id let him watch Rent.
If I remember it correctly, I think I would agree with the PP. I would want the child to have a firm grasp of the issues, though, so that could vary from kid to kid anywhere from 11/12-16/17. I know that when DP & I saw it there was a young child there (under 8) I was shocked to see. For DD, 12, I would probably feel more comfortable waiting a little while longer.
Thank you both! I think I won't worry about it, because the 16 y.o. daughter will enjoy it while the 12 y.o. son will probably be a bit bored and go do his own thing.
