I feel like all I do all day is try to get my DD to nap, because she only stays asleep 30 to 45 minutes at a stretch. Within an hour to 90 minutes of waking, she's ready to go to sleep again. I know that is common because it is the length of one sleep cycle, but it's starting to drive me a little batty. I have a 3 year old DS, of whom I feel neglectful, because as DD becomes a more sensitive sleeper, I'm constantly slipping away to put her to sleep (and trying hard not to keep shushing him). It doesn't matter whether I wear her, swing her, rock her, lie down with her, stroll her or drive her in the car - 45 minutes is tops. So, okay, I get it - this is just how she is. Tell me this, oh wise moms out there, if your LO had the same tendency, was there something you did to encourage the longer naps, or did it just happen eventually? And when? When DS was little, he had no discernable pattern - day or night. DD, on the other hand, is asleep for the night regularly at 8pm, up at 7:30am, with two or three wakings. Totally manageable nights. And getting her to nap is not the chore it was with DS, who was much fussier. I'm just hoping to see a light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks a bunch!

Totally, totally normal. And that awake time (90 minutes) is right on target. That's what both my DS's have done. DS2 is now almost 5.5 months old and just dropped his 4th nap. He finally started taking naps longer than 45 minutes and we can extend his awake time a bit. Well, I actually kind of forced it because the 4 naps/day was just KILLING me.
