protecting LO from sun

Sunshine- how I love it!  The beach, the park, so many great places to lounge around...but what my problem is (and what I need advice on) is that I have no clue how to best protect my baby from the sun this summer.  I know its getting late in the season and I’ve so far I’ve just put big hats on my baby and kept her in the shade...but what else should I do?  I found a site that had some free health information for moms that said no to sunscreen before six months, special SPF swimsuits and to keep as much as possible my LO in the shade (here is the site).  What do you guys think?  Have you tried what the site suggests or what has worked in your experience?  thanks so much, I’m a first time mom and this helps a ton!

My dd is 3 months old and i use Aveeno sun block for babies. I also do all the other things like watching the time we are out and dressing her properly.  Hope you have a fantastic summer while staying sun safe.

I just keep her in the shade.  If I go for a walk, she is in a carrier.  Then I take a lightweight cotton blanket to cover the arms and legs and I made a knitted sun hat for her. We spend lots of time at the lake.  It is silly but she does have a long sleeve rash guard and two pairs of boardshorts.  LOL  I figure I will put her in those for future years too, until she disagrees. :)  I'd like to keep the toxic chemicals in the sunblock to a minimum.
