Doing the #2 in the potty

We are just flirting with pottytraining Miles (2.24.09) and to our delight, he pee'd in the potty at the 2nd try! He has yet however, pee'd in the potty again since. Its been 3 days, but to be honest, I'm being rather lazy about asking him if he needed to use the potty or remind him to let me know if he needs to pee and I'll take him to the potty. But as far as bms, if I see he's working on one, he positively refuses to come near me if I even suggest or mention the word potty. In fact, he shoos me away. I am sympathetic to his need and want for privacy and does not force the issue but how can I gentle guide him to the potty when #2 comes a knockin?

We still haven't figured this out. We did have success a couple of times when we were out visiting friends -- because there was so much going on that the bathroom actually gave him privacy rather than 'taking it away' like at home when he'd rather crawl under the table or something. So maybe you could try when you're out & about?

Someone also recommended to me taking small steps, like getting him to come in the bathroom (but not on the potty) or loosening his diaper and once he masters that, removing the diaper (still no potty -- do it over newspaper) and then once he's used to that you can work on getting it in the actual potty... DS is too resistant though so I haven't gotten anywhere with it.

IDK... my DS has had amazing potty awareness from early on & is physically & mentally capable of potty learning (has peed in the potty many many times etc.) but just not emotionally ready for it I guess. We have decided not to push him because we have lots of other issues to deal with and definitely don't want pottying to be a power struggle. But it sounds like you guys have only been trying for a few days, so maybe you just need to give him more time.
