Breastfeeding and US visas

ETA - in case anyone was curious...

I heard back.  No exception will be granted.  If she wants to join her family for the duration of the appointment, they will have to be married.

Hi,

I have a call out to our HR person, but I was wondering if someone on this forum might have some information as well.

We're hiring a foreign citizen for one of our positions and he listed both his child (about a 1.5 years old) and his fiancee as dependents on the visa documents.  The US doesn't issue visas for fiances of foreign nationals even if they have young children (they have to get married before they come if they want to be listed on the visa), but I'm wondering if anyone knows of an exception if the child is breastfeeding.    The  kids in all of our other cases were all much older.  Any info would be appreciated!

You don't mention the type of visa in question.  But unmarried cohabitating partners can qualify for a B2 tourist visa to accompany a non-immigrant temporary worker to the U.S.  The partner can apply for the B2 visa at the same time as or after the principal applicant.  The partner should be prepared to provide proof of cohabitation for at least 12 months prior to the date of the visa application.  Children, whether born in wedlock or out of wedlock, qualify as dependents.
