Really?  B/c the CIA might hatch a fake plan to vaccinate them to verify their location, in an attempt to kill them?  You can't possibly be serious.

Honestly, the article sounds so full of BS.

I know.  Trust me I know.  It just sounds ridiculous.  There have been LOTS of theories about what the CIA was up to, but it just sounds ridiculous.

The CBC got the article from the Guardian out of Britain - also a mainstream newspaper.

It is a weird article.

It was also reported by the NY Times and others in the US--maybe part of the reason it wasn't wide spread is because it might work people up (to think the govt.) might try and take samples without consent??

well if its true I feel bad for the doctor who has "since been arrested by Pakistan" for cooperating with US. One would think at the very least that we would have protected this dr from harm for his role in this. sheesh. talk about taking advantage of someone.

If you're an international terrorist leader wanted by the CIA, then yes, you should probably take a lot of precautions to limit your contact with anyone who might have a connection with a government agency.

If you think that you, in your ordinary life, are just as interesting to the CIA as bin Laden was, you might want to ask yourself what you have done lately to make yourself so important, and if it was really a good idea.  You can save your kids a lot of trauma if you turn yourself in rather than waiting for the SEAL team raid.

If you think that the samples from PKU testing are going into a government database, you might want to think about how much that would cost, and if it would really be cost-effective even for our notoriously wasteful government.  What those tests are incredibly cost-effective for is saving the lives of children who will lead normal lives if they receive treatment for their metabolic disorders, but who will be seriously damaged by those disorders if they go untreated until they become symptomatic.

There is also a test done during early pregnancy for spinal bifida, the alpha-feto protein test, which in most states is handled in only one laboratory in the state capital.

What happens to all those samples?

How do you suggest they screen for congenital hypothyroidism?  Wait until signs of brain damage are present months later?

Is there a way to determine low thyroid function that doesn't involve either symptoms or blood?

I was curious about what happened to the samples collected for newborn testing, so I asked google. The final fate of these samples is determined by each jurisdiction. So, then, why should you not worry about the samples being used to create a huge scary DNA database? Because that would be incredibly expensive. Processing DNA for forensic analysis costs roughly $500-1200, according to the state of North Carolina. That's per sample. States already have a huge, expensive backlog of DNA to test for criminal cases. State budgets do not have the cash for the project.

Please remember to stay on-topic regarding vax specific issues in this forum. Thanks!

Hm. Well, unless your babies are terrorist masterminds at the top of the world's Most Wanted list, I don't see how this story has anything to do with childhood vaccinations....?

My experience is that no matter what happens, the parents are to blame.

What about the false negatives and false positives derived from such massive testing and incompetent record keeping?  I guess it is OK in this struggle against disease.  Yes, I do know of many misdiagnoses in this kind of testing, especially the alphafeto protein testing in which women are subjected to family history questions and encouraged to abort when the test was wrong.

You conveniently miss my point completely.  I want to know what is done with those blood samples.  No one has ever told me.

Have you ever asked the people who do the testing? Or the doctor/technician in charge? If so, what did they tell you?

they don't have a clue

Not to get off the subject ---- FYI I had an insurance problem with the PKU and had to contact one of only two labs in my state that do the testing (in PA and the cost is $60.00 but they billed my insurance over $900.00) any way - the results go to the State Dept of Health and a copy to the Ped.

the point of posting was to show about the US govt vaccine connection overseas
