Anyone doing GFCF?

We've just started our kids on this diet. Would love to hear from others doing this, your experiences, etc. How long did you try it for? Did you see any results? What sorts of results did you see?

I'm hoping it will help DS with his outbursts and violent rages. I'm hoping it helps both kids with their sensory issues so that they can eat a greater variety of food.

We had HUGE improvements with GF... later  we had even better improvements with one of my boys and going dairy free. My dad has food sensitivities though ( the same ones), so it had only made sense that we try it out. For us though it has to be sooooo strict. Once we cut something with the same knife that cut some cheese while not paying attention. My youngest pees the bed EVERY TIME he is exposed. That is our first sign. The next day and days coming are brutal with a return of behavioral stuff.  I completely got on top of some of my own health issues when we made the diet change too

We have done GFCF (and also soy and corn free) since my DS (3) started solids. I noticed he had some terrible colicky reactions to all of these in my breastmilk and went off of them completely. Amazingly enough, it started me on the road to healing as well.

The few times we have accidentally or purposefully allowed my son to eat gluten or casein, he has been a mess. He already has sensory issues and they are uncontrollable when he is not on the diet. Crying for half an hour over something small, rage, hyperactiveness - totally uncontrollable.

I heard somewhere (I think it was a book I read about autism) that 80 percent of autistic children have some improvement on the GFCF diet.

I also heard it takes quite a while to get the gluten and casein out of the system, so don't lose heart if it doesn't work right away. I think for casein it was 2 weeks and gluten was even longer than that.
