ouch!! pubic pone, front and center, lightning

well, i don/t know how to describe this pain i am having, but the title calls it pretty clearly. it comes and goes, and is worst at times when i am lifting from a sit, rolling over, or stepping on the clutch (if only i could sit closer, and didn't have to reach my leg in so much. what a reach.

i started a whole new thread, because this doesn't really sound like anything else we've talked about, but i was wondering if it is something my chiropatic appt could help with, or if it is  whole different kind of healing that needs to happen. i can't seem to remember this same pain in any of my pregnancies. is it just selective memory? i draw a blank of a lot of things pregnancy related. you'd think i'd have some point of reference by now? well, let's just say it is not acute.

it is only sometimes, where i can barely walk and i need to sort of gather up my tummy and brace myself for each step. squatting and sitting cross legged are fine. any kind of twisting is not happening. a twist and reach? dear me.

this hits at certain times, and is not constant (which i am dearly thankful for). what gives? does it have a name?

Several other people have that problem!

Your chiropractor should be able to help. Also, if you take a small ball between your knees (or I use a pillow, but it's less effective) and squeeze your legs together, it can help. First it hurts and then it stops. And if it pops, life is good, in general ;)

This sounds vaguely like symphisis pubis dysfunction... but not quite. I know that with SPD you're not supposed to squat because it can stretch out the already stressed joint to an uncomfortable degree, but for me squatting has been super comfortable which leads me to believe it's not SPD. My pubic bone also isn't sensitive to the touch, which is a classic SPD symptom.

I get the same kind of pain you describe especially when walking for too long, or rolling over in bed (I'm guessing the symphisis pubis is being squished as a I lay on my side).

For me I think it's related to the baby dropping/engaging, because this is a new feeling that I've only had in the past few weeks (starting around week 35). I don't know how much a chiro could do to relieve it, so I've just been trying to sit on my exercise ball with my legs spread wide, sleep on my side with my top hip positioned more toward my back, and avoid reclining too much.

Hope you feel better soon!

This is the fist time I've felt it in three pregnancies and it sucks!  Is it by any chance worse with an OP baby?  Ugh.

i think it sounds like SPD - i had it for the first time - with my third child - one trip to the chiro and i was FINE.  *Not all chiros know how to work on pregnant women - choose one who specializes in women and children.  Mine didnt accept my insurance - but it was $ well spent!  Also the 'support belt'  helped whenever i was walking anywhere - which, last August, was RARE!

This is our SPD thread, and it has some helpful tips in it to minimize pain: http://www.mothering.com/community/forum/thread/1319868/spd-symphysis-pubis-dysfunction-anyone

I have SPD, and the pubic bone pain is, sadly, the tell-tale symptom.  There are varying degrees of severity, but it sounds like you might have a mild case.  And YES, the chiropractor can absolutely help!  Chiropractic work is about the only thing you can really do for it.  There are things you can do to minimize pain, but it kind of sticks around, and gets worse.  Mine seemed just fine within a week of delivery the first time around, although it's been worse for me this pregnancy, so we shall see.

It could just be that it's happening now because baby is beginning to engage, which puts even more pressure on the SP joint.  Regardless, it's an absolutely miserable feeling, and I'm so sorry you're dealing with it!!

thanks, all!!

italia, i guess i didn't read thoroughly enough on the spd thread to begin with.....it seemed like this was similar but didn't hit all of the key note signs. thanks for sending me back there. at least i have a name for this beast now. it seems more conclusive to me, i can handle it better with a name. why, i don't know. just who i am i guess. if it has a name, i can deal better.......hugs to all of us with the spd lightning!

i am schooling my girls in how to clean out our birthing tub....which is also just our giant outdoor trough of a bathtub. so we ended up out on the deck bathing last night, and i did get some much needed relief. i will try the ball excercise, too, beckily!

and hooray for the chiropractor today. i've got my fingers crossed.

just as an update, i did go to the chiro on thursday, and he did a few different things, but nothing felt significantly changed by the visit. thursday night, however, when i was rolling from one side to the other in a broken sleep, a crazy, magnificent shift happened in my pelvis and from what i can tell, things were loose and fell right into place. it was amazing, i just can't give it justice in explanation. things haven't flared up again yet, so i am hoping that all fell back into shape.

Glad things "clicked" for you mama!!!  SP pain is no joke though, and it's wonderful that the chiro was able to adjust you so that your body knew what to do to get itself back into place.
