Can non-Vax'd kids get sick from people recently vax'd?

Hi everyone.  VERY new to this board.  I'm learning a ton.

My DH and I have not vax'd our 10 mo old DS.  My SD who is 16 is going to be traveling (against our will) to Bengladesh with her mother.  She will need to get vax'd for a number of illnesses (she's always been vax'd).  All that lead me to:

1) do I need to keep DS away from her when she is getting her shots?  I mean in the case of MMR where it's a live virus, is it possible for those that aren't vax'd to catch it from being around the person?

2) do I need to)would you) keep her away from DS for a certain length of time once she gets back (I have no issue doing so)?  I know diphtheria is an issue there and that people can carry it without being sick for a length of time.

Thanks for your support.  I have NONE in my family.  PED is tolerable.  DH is very anti-vax (he's very statistically minded).  And I personally know a number of people whose kids have mysteriously come down with auto-immune disorders after starting to vax.  So having a place to come to ask questions and not hear how "selfish, stupid, and how I know nothing of science" like the other poster indicated she ran into is a breath of fresh air.

I do not see anything newer than 1995 about diphteria in Bangladesh.

Would not be actually a good thing for you unvaxed child to get sick and aquire natural immunity if you do not want to vaccinate?

Hi thanks for responding.

It's one of the required vaccines to get into the country.  I haven't researched how prevalent it is.

But no, it is not one I would not want my LO to get it.  Death rate if you do get it is 10% from everything I'm reading and it's very serious.  Of all of them out there, this is the one that worries me the most.  Hence why I would keep them apart for a period of time.  Some people are "silent carriers" and can spread it without knowing they have it.  The Dtap vaccine statisticly worries me a lot more since the disease itself is extremely rare.

Anyone know if someone can get an illness from being around someone who got a live vax shot?  Like MMR...?

from what I've read vaxed people are contagious for a month or so.  I worry about school etc and all those live viruses moving around. Is it any wonder school kids are ALWAYS sick.

ya no kidding.  Do you remember any sources that say they are contagious after vaccination?  I'd love to add that to my research pile.

Also, I did find updated info as of 2009 that Bangladesh is the 7th ranked country with 23 known cases:

So, it seems to be pretty rare in US but not other countries. It seems that you need to keep your child away not just from your step child but anyone who is unvaccinated and visited a  bunch of countries listed here:

Yeah Even in those countries it's still pretty rare. But my SD stays with us For the entire summer and every few weeks and is in very close contact with LO while she's here. I don't expect others to be picking him up, changing him, feeding him, etc. So I agree with you, I'll probably need to keep her away for a period after she returns.

I am from former Soviet Union and I just read some more. It does not seem that rare there anymore.  However, you can;t immigrate here without vaccinations and TB resting.
