how to transition from squatting to toilet-sitting for doing #2?

DD is 3 1/2 and is pretty much toilet-trained now (it's been a long road with her!), except that she squats on top of a prefold diaper in front of the toilet for bowel movements. For a long time she would only poop in a diaper (squatting), but we've gradually "weaned" her to being willing to do so squatting ON a diaper. The squatting part is really important to her.

My question is, has anyone helped a kid make the transition from squatting to sitting on a toilet? If so, how did you do it?

I searched the Mothering archives before posting this, and learned that there are kids who will poop by squatting on the toilet seat, so that's one idea .... I know squatting is healthy (I loved doing it myself when I studied abroad for a semester in East Africa!), but it's not the way our culture does it...

I would just teach her how to squat over the toilet. If that's what is easiest and most natural (which it is for all of us) then keep with it.  Easier while traveling as well - no need to touch public bathroom grossness when you're out and you've got to go!

How about a very small potty? Like the Bjorn little potty, http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009OLSYO/ref=asc_df_B0009OLSYO1628792?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395093&creativeASIN=B0009OLSYO

Its really low to the ground and I'm pretty sure my tiny 3.5 year old could easily squat over it if he wanted. It might help her gradually transition to sitting.

My dd liked for us to hold her under her arms, and then would relax her whole body while we held her up. She was ok just sitting on the potty, not squatting if we did it that way. We also talked about the funny sounds it made when her poop hit the water :)

i would leave her be or get a squatting platform for the toilet, honestly it is the healthiest way. fwiw my dh is from a culture where this is normal so i am biased? ds prefers to squat and i would rather him do it, as it has been hard for me to learn!
