Moving company

Hi there,

We are currently in San Mateo County in CA.  My husband will be taking a new job in Maryland in late August.  We are currently deciding on a moving company.  Anyone here have a good recommendation for a cross-country moving company (or even a warning from a bad experience)?  When we moved here 5 yr ago, we used Atlas Vanlines with only an ok experience.  Things weren't terrible, but they could have been better.  So please share any opinions you have.  Thanks!

P.S. How about companies to ship your car?  We would love good/bad opinions on that too.

I used Golden Key Express to get a car across country in 2009. It cost $1,065. They had good reviews with the BBB and their quote didn't seem too out of line with the millions of spam quotes I got once I filled out an online survey.

I didn't use a moving service but used ReloCube, which is like PODS but cheaper and I saw good reviews of them online. You can get a quote online and it gives you cube dimensions. Their quote was a lot cheaper than any van lines, and it meant we did the packing ourselves at our own pace once the cubes were dropped off, then our stuff traveled to the west coast and waited for us in its cubes. Then we got local unload help at the end which was only about $250. The customer service we got was good and there was no issue about hijacking our stuff or anything like that. Everything was where they said it would be when it was supposed to be.
