encouragement

post #1 of 6
Thread Starter

I was thinking about posting this on another thread, but it was an autism thread and I thought this might be encouraging to moms whose kids have other issues as well.

One of my all time favorite movies is Meet the Robinson's. It's a Disney animated movie, and if you haven't seen it, I encourage you it. It's a silly movie, about a little boy with no family who gets to travel into the future, but I believe it contains great wisdom, and that learning the lesson of this goffy movie, which has a talking hat as a character and large bush shapped like a T-rex who turns out to be a good guy, we can have more peace about the day to day difficulties.

The song from the movie is Little Wonders, by Rob Thomas. It's beautiful. I've posted an except from the lyrics (but not too much to stay in the guidelines regarding copywrites):

let it go,
let it roll right off your shoulder
don't you know
the hardest part is over
let it in,
let your clarity define you
in the end
we will only just remember how it feels

our lives are made
in these small hours
these little wonders,
these twists & turns of fate
time falls away,
but these small hours,
these small hours still remain

let it slide,
let your troubles fall behind you
let it shine
until you feel it all around you

(feel free to post other songs, movies, anything really, that YOU find encouraging)

I love that song, and that movie.

When my daughter was in the NICU and her future outcome was still massively in question (she had long term, severe apoxia and they were concerned that she would have severe brain damage), we went and saw "Finding Nemo". It was perfection. It showed me that she would be just fine, even if she had a "lucky fin", and it showed me that I would love her no matter what, and taught me how to be a better parent.

I'm not sure I could say it made me feel better, but I bawling.gif the first season of Parenthood when Max was being diagnosed.

I LOVE that movie and the song.  Have you watched the interview of the director and the person who wrote the song.  It is neat.  I agree.  With 3 children with autism, you don't sweat the small stuff and enjoy life minute by minute.
