We first noticed some discoloration in my (then) 20 month old daughter's teeth last December, and made a hasty appointment with the Kool Smiles office in Sumter. We were told she had decay in her four upper incisors and needed "root canals" and crowns for them. We were very upset that we weren't given any additional information nor were we offered the opportunity to speak to the dentist (this information was conveyed by the dental assistant).
So upon a positive recommendation from a friend, we made an appointment with Wild Smiles (White Knoll office - the main dentist was recommended, but it would be 2 months before we could get an appointment). It was even worse. After a quick exam, the dentist spent the next 10 minutes blaming me and arguing that extended breastfeeding was the cause of her problems. I left in tears.
We decided to wait 6 months (until our insurance would completely cover another visit). I've been putting it off for fear of another Wild Smiles-like confrontation, but this morning noticed some new issues with her teeth, and I know I can't do it any longer.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a breastfeeding-friendly(ier) dentist anywhere in the midlands who is patient, child-friendly, and willing to actually discuss options? :)
