Inflammed, tender-to-the-touch penis on 6yo

Thread Starter

My son is 6.5yo. Yesterday after a day of play he came home and complained about his penis hurting. It was swollen and red, the foreskin is unaffected and there is no discharge. There seems to be a very slight abrasion on one side, though my husband and I aren't sure. My son can't recall any injury to it during play or anything else that may have triggered it. Two things I immediately thought of were:

1. I caved and bought bubble bath which the children have been using every day this week.

2. we had been at a birthday party and my son ate an enormous amount of sugar, which is something his body is not used to. But I doubt the effect of sugar could be that immediate for an acute yeast infection? Within a few hours?

He says that it actually feels better when he urinates and has no pain with urination. I've been giving him epson baths with little improvement and does of probiotic. I'd like to treat it naturally for another 24hrs before taking him in to the doctor.

Would appreciate any thoughts or insight.

Thanks in advance,

Maeve

Is he intact? If so has he retracted yet? A little while back my intact son (3.5) had a swollen penis, that hurt to touch or rub on his clothing. I am trying to remember, but I am pretty sure the foreskin was involved from the beginning as well. It did not hurt him to pee at first and there was no discharge. Then by the end of first day, or maybe the second day--and of course after 5pm--it hurt a little bit to pee and there was some discharge. I called the advice nurse and they said to bring him in in the morning as it was an infection. Well, it got better over that night. It was not all gone, but it was clearly getting better. The doctor's office called later the next morning to check and I told them it was getting better. They told me we didn't need to come in that day. He had a well check later that week. It was all better by the time we went for the appointment. The only thing I remember doing was putting some epsom salt in the tub. We don't do bubble bath because we have a sister :)  If you look/post in the Case Against Circumcision Forum you might get more info. That is where I looked when all this was going on. I hope your little guy feels better soon and that this is just part of the natural course of things.
