SIL's Breastfeeding Views

"I don't mind you breastfeeding in public as long as you don't mind me staring" is my 22 yo SIL's current FB status. I just don't know how to respond!

We've talked (or rather communicated via FB) about breastfeeding before. She thinks it should only be done in private, as in a separate room or restroom or completely covered. She knows I disagree:) I respect her opinions and certainly never show skin than I have to to feed my son. I do breastfeed in her and her husband's presence at my in laws and my house. Knowing the way she feels, I tend to use a blanket for a little bit of cover when hey are around.

Yes, she is young and childless so I don't judge her for her views. I certainly had some crazy ones before DS came along! But it irks me what she publicly says! Plus, she and her DH (and 2 of her friends!) are staying at our house for 4 days while they are attending a convention next week near our town. There's no question she will see me breastfeeding in MY house how I normally do.

Sigh. I guess this is just a rant. Thanks for reading. Advice is appreciated:)

You could respond with something like:

"And I don't mind if you eat in public, as long as you do so with a blanket over your head. :P"

Just kinda jokingly. I guess it depends on her personality and your relationship and how you think she'll react to it. Personally, I don't think her comment is that bad. She's not against NIP. Just because someone's staring doesn't mean they disagree with what you are doing, it could just be they are curious. Or you could reply. "I too find myself staring when someone's NIP, there's nothing more natural or beautiful."

Like the previous poster said, I think if your breastfeeding in your own home makes them uncomfortable you should offer to put a blanket over their heads.

Actually, I would post this on her wall:

But I can be kind of a drama queen when it comes to people judging when and where my kid eats.

Yea - i think your SIL comment  is snarky....you could also post "if youre hoping to see breasts, you will have better luck glancing through this months Glamour magazine"   - or tonights episode of Jersey Shore...etc...

and in your own home ....nurse as you please!
