Looking for naturally-minded midwife/OB in Birmingham

Thread Starter

I'm needing to have a hospital birth (mainly because of cost, not because of any high-risk needs). Because of my insurance, I have to deliver at UAB hospital. I'm adamant about having a drug-free/low intervention birth, but I have no idea what UAB providers would support me in that. I much prefer a midwife, but a natural-birth friendly OB is okay too. I do plan on hiring a doula as well. Does anyone have any references? Thanks!

Hi! Congrats on your pregnancy. AL isn't the most midwife friendly/natural birthy state in the union you might have figured out by now. I hope you've found a good provider but if not, you might try contacting the ICAN Birmingham group at icanofbirmingham@gmail.com . They're interested in preventing C Sections so I'm sure they will at least be able to give you some names of OBs to avoid!

You are also smart getting a doula,

Good luck!
