Wow- what a chubby cutie! He's gorgeous! I've got a similar WHAM diaper too!
Who's left so far? - Page 5
39.5 weeks today and am 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced. Feeling like everyone just keeps saying, "but your baby is so high still". But, this is my second... isn't that normal? I was induced with my first due to preeclampsia at 38 weeks... wondering if my body knows what to do!!
You're body will know what to do. Have faith. My first was a c-section. My 2nd was induced. My 3rd and 4th came spontaneously when they were ready and my body definitely knew what to do. I did not have one internal exam to check dilation or effacement the entire time, even when I was ready to push.
Your body will know what to do!! My first was a cesarean and my second was a VBAC. I don't think she dropped until labor! This one is dropping, but not engaged yet.
Congrats on the beautiful baby boy, MarineWife!
I'm 39 weeks 3 days.
I had a few false labor panics the last two weeks but they went away and Baby is still inside. I had a breakdown a few days ago because everyone keeps calling to ask if the baby is here and I guess I kinda let them get me thinking that the baby would come early. But I'm better now. I had my second @ 40 weeks 4 days, so I know Baby WILL come, just not early like everyone has had me thinking for the last few months. Baby will come before 41 weeks, I'm sure of it. Not far away at all and we are ready for him/her.
If I get pregnant again someday, I won't tell anyone until the baby is born! I can't handle the stress of the "So....no baby yet?" or "You're tired? That's because you're body is getting ready to go into labor!" or "Baby was napping during the doppler check? It's because he/she is getting ready for labor!" ARGH.
yes, totally focusing on gathering my zen to trust my body. Maybe it's just that I'm annoyed in general today but even when people ask me when I'm due in the grocery store, I feel like saying, "none of your business". :( I'm not normally like that whatsoever but the, "but your baby is so high" comment bugs me SO much. A woman behind me getting ice cream this afternoon said, "you have to be due any time". I said, "Yes, Friday." She says, "well... that baby doesn't look like he/ she's coming too soon... too high." ARRRRGH!!!!! Well then why the hell did you say I looked like I could go any day????
Anyway, 2cm and 50 %effaced isn't closed tight so I am happy with that!!
YES!!! the "too high" comments are driving me nuts! I realize, this is my first, so people expected me to start dropping 2 weeks ago, but I've read up on it, even with first babys, sometimes it just doesn't drop til it's time! Granted I have dropped a little bit, but not really much, BUT baby is head down, and (s)he's far ENOUGH down that doc could feel the head on Monday, so I'm not too worried! The ones that drive me the most nuts though are the "oh, since you're so high it must be a girl" oh yes, obviously you know my body so well....*rolls eyes*
39+w is still early, especially for a first baby. Remember that the average length of a normal, healthy pregnancy that is allowed to progress without any intervention is 41w3d or something like that. I think with the increase in multiples from infertility treatments and elective early inductions and c-sections, we've started expecting babies to come earlier but they really don't (and shouldn't). It's also perfectly fine and normal to walk around for weeks a few cm dilated and partially effaced. That sort of thing can't really tell anyone anything about when baby will actually come. That's why I don't even bother with that. It's useless but can really mess with your head.
Your bodies will know what to do when the time comes. Baby still needs this time inside the womb to finish growing. The brain is still developing as well as other organs. Thinking of it that way may help to be more patient and relaxed. Wouldn't want babies to come before they are ready.
I agree. The 'too high' comments are ridiculous. It is sooo relative. One of my friends is convinced that we are having a girl because I am 'high', but this baby is much much lower than DD was (we are waiting to find out). In terms of dropping, dilation and effacement: I dropped a little with DD, nothing significant and was like 1/2cm dilated 1 day before I went into labor (I don't remember about effacement) and DD was at the -1 postition. DD did not engage until labor actually started and almost all of my dilation also occurred during labor. I think the numbers just give people something to talk about and strangers (in my opinion) are just excited about the idea of a baby so they like to talk about what they see (ie: belly height).
