too much pain feeding 3 day old!

Thread Starter

I had my newest three days ago.  Feeding her is so painful I have to bite my tongue to keep from screaming.  The skin on the very tips of both nipples are yellow - not a crusty discharge, the actual skin.  When she latches on I want to cry, it hurts so bad.  I fed three others without problems so I don't know why this, why now?

Anyway, any help at all to make this a painless or at least les painful experience would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a lactation consultant near you that you can go see in person?  Maybe the hospital/birth center where you delivered (or the MW attending your homebirth) can help you.  I would have someome take a look at your nipples, as well as give your baby an oral exam and observe a breastfeeding session.

Feel better soon!

I agree with PP - if you have nursed 3 others - get yourself to a professional immediately.   I wonder if she may have a tongue tie.  Kepp us posted!

get checked, something's up. tongue-tie, improper tongue use, maybe bubble pallet?

Yes yes yes!  See an IBCLC!  In the meantime, you might like to try laid-back nursing (ww.biologicalnurturing.com) if you're not already, to help your baby obtain the best latch that she can for now.

Hang in there, and please let us know how you get on!

How are you getting on now?  Any improvement?  I do hope so!
