At my wits end:Sick baby!

I don't know if this should be here or breastfeeding or health. Mods feel free to move.

My DS is 13 months. Yesterday, I came home from work and my husband said he wanted me to check out the rash on my DS's bum. Well, I looked at the rash and saw that it was not a normal rash and that it was something else and immediately phoned the dr.'s and got an appointment that day.

The dr said the rash looked like a yeast infection but that there were some bumps far away from the bum area that looked like chicken pox. Yesterday he had a mild fever and playing normally and was his happy self.

In the middle of the night, he woke up screaming and would refuse to nurse. He did this several times. Eventually he would nurse and go back to sleep, only to wake up screaming again.

Today, he has been off. He has been unhappy. I came home from work and he refused to nurse. He ate dinner and has been drinking water from a sippy. His bum rash has improved a bit with the yeast cream. But some of his chicken pox looking spots are smaller and less noticeable than the day before. But he has new spots on his feet and hands. It is well past his bedtime now. I managed to get him to convince him to nurse to sleep, but he woke up screaming again. Nothing I am doing can convince him to nurse. He is obviously exhausted and we can distract him from crying temporarily, but he starts up again soon after. If he is still like this in the morning, I'll take him into the dr.s again. We did give him some tylenol but i don't think it is helping. Any ideas? Thoughts on what I can do? I've been wearing him in the sling and pacing back and forth but it only works to distract him for a minute.. ah! I'm crying because I can't help him!

You ARE helping him.  By consoling him while he feels like poo.

Immagine how you feel when your under the weather.  Atleast you can whine and say GAWD!!!!  My head is KILLING ME.  Maybe I will take some tylenol.  Your baby cant tell you what hurts.  His only course of communication of how crummy he feels is screaming.  Simple distractions help, but as soon as the twinge of pain comes back, not much will deter him from noticing.

As for his symptoms, sounds like possibly coxsackie?  Both my kids have had that.  My little guy was around 7 months old, and man he was BURNING UP with it.  Poor kiddo.

last night was awful...but his fever broke this morning. I managed to convince him to nurse a few times in the night...but i'm having the hardest time when he refuses to nurse. It's like he is rejecting me. It was my go to answer for all boo boos and now I have nothing. I'm obviously exhausted, so perhaps I'm reacting overly emotional to him not nursing.

I was going to guess hand, foot, and mouth too. The sores in their mouths can make nursing hard, but as young as he is, I'm sure he'll pick up where he left off when he's feeling better. Sick babies is so hard! ((hugs))

This.  My little guy had the sores down the back of his throat.  Not fun.
