I have had 2 cats for about 6 years. They are both older, probably around 16? One has started pooping in the living room, right by my 11 month old son's toys. This cat usually sleeps behind the couch all day, only coming out to eat & use the litter box (I haven't noticed him peeing outside the box). He goes through phases likes this, but last time we lived in a house with a basement. Now we are renting and have lovely beige carpet (which luckily hasn't stained yet). It's not because the box isn't clean enough - he's done it when the box is still fresh. We haven't changed litter and we've lived in this house for 2 months (he just started doing this last week).

Any ideas to get him to stop? Any ideas for keeping the carpet clean? I think we're getting a Bissel spot cleaner... I'm so fed up with this cat. He's a total charity case and I find myself wishing I didn't have him. Which then makes me feel guilty!
