Please Recommend a window guard

hi

I posted a similar question last month or so but here it goes again, somewhat more sepcific:

Can anyone recommend a good safe window guard? I mean the bar type that installs safely.  We are moving into a second floor apartment with a climb-y 17 month old. Most of the windows are low to the floor, and have a deep ledge that ds likes to climb into. Also, they are the kind that open out-  with a handle you roll that opens them out.  In the warmer weather when they are open  there is only a screen keeping everything in! So I want to install window guards in all of them. There are quite a few on amazon so I am wondering if anyone has used them and can please link me to a specific one that they found safe? (and also any to avoid?)

thanks

A friend of mine had these (or something very similar) and they worked well. The main problem with window bars is that they're a real hazard in the case of a fire. These have safety releases that an adult can do (takes two strong hands). You want to avoid any ones that don't have a way to release them in case of fire.

You do need to mount them to the side of the window with screws. Will your landlord allow that?

These look interesting. I wonder how well they work?

Oh, and if you're on a 2nd floor, you need a fire escape ladder too:

thanks! I haven't looked at the links yet but I will when ds naps- yes I believe the landlord will be okay with the screws- I hope so! And yes we do need a fire escape ladder. The landlord does construction/ carpentry so hopefully he can see that installing a few screws is an easy thing to repair when we move out!
