Visiting Portland - Hawthorne neighborhood

We will be staying in a condo between Col Summers Park and Laurelhurst Park.

We will be attending the Oregon Brewer's Festival and probably going to Mt. Hood ... but other than that, we're looking for some family-centered entertainment.  We'd really love to meet up with some moms/parents/kids.  Our daughters are 11, 7 & 2.  We're a family of hippies, if that matters.

We've been to Portland before, so it's not a complete mystery.  We plan to spend an afternoon at the Jamison Square Fountain (unless there is something better/free).  We went to OMSI a few years ago, and they had a ping pong ball experiment "thing" - for lack of a better description.  Do they still have that?  I enjoyed it probably more than the kids did!

Anyway, I'd love to hang out with some moms and kids.
