Retracted own foreskin too soon!!

My 2 year old, intact son, retracted his foreskin today and cause a lot of pain for him self.

At first I didnt know what had happened. He went pee and started to scream and then said his penis hurt. Happened a few more times in an hour so my thought was a bladder infection. I took him into the urgent care where they looked at him, gently pulled back his foreskin and it was all red at the bottom of the head!! My poor boy!!!

The doctor said to gently pull back the skin and put antibiotic ointment on it 3 times a day until it heals.

I tired when we got home and he screamed!!

I'm just not sure if that's the right treatment for this! I plan to call my ped in the morning and ask too!!

Personally, I think I'd leave it alone and see if it will heal itself (the skin will usually reattach, heal and be asymptomatic from everything I've ever read).  I think it will heal up on it's own if it doesn't keep getting retracted. If it still hurts him to pee, he can pee in the bathtub or with his penis submerged in a cup of water.

Simply putting the salve on the tip of the foreskin will get it up in side. I wouldnt retract him to put it on because not only does it cause him pain but it can also increase the tearing leading to more pain.

Odds are it will heal and he will be at least partially retractable then. Dosnt change anything about how you care for him though just keep wiping like a finger from base to tip and when he is old enough you can worry about teaching retract, rinse, replace.
