Spousal arrangements when xh works a lot of overtime?

How did you arrange a spousal support amount when your xh works varied but significant overtime?  Setting the amount based on base pay would not be fair as he often makes more than his base in just overtime.  But the overtime comes and goes and can't count on it.  Is there some flexibility there somehow?

I work more hours in the winter than in the summer because of overtime.  At stbxh's insistence, we used my gross salary from last year and divided by 52 for the child support work sheet.

Kinda not totally fair to me, but it was a compromise.  (Right now, I am 2,000 behind what I made last year.)

No spousal here just a child support amount and we used base pay numbers.  The courts viewed OT similiar to a second job and they don't count second jobs, other sources of income etc when figuring c/s,s/s numbers.

It is typical to average the overtime over a period of 3 years when it is regular.  Going by just one year isn't accurate, it may not be enough or it may be too much.
