Re your thread title change - why delete?  We've all been at the beginning.  It's confusing stuff.

Have you ever been to hoagiesgifted.org?  Great site with great info.  I don't know if you've read any book on gifted, but there are a number of good ones.  Would you like some titles?

I'm sorry you wish you could delete the thread. That suggests that your questions haven't been answered and that you haven't gained any helpful information. Looking back through the discussion, I think I bear a lot of responsibility for taking the conversation away from your original interest, which was about gifted assessments. If so, I sincerely regret it.

As I stated before, I have no personal experience with the WPPSI, but my dc have been assessed and identified. Like a pp's child, they generally enjoyed the experience. I found the results of the assessments to be very helpful. If there are specific questions that you have about the assessment process, as opposed to that particular instrument, then perhaps I can respond -  and I'll even try to stick to the subject  shy.gif.

BTW, following another recent thread, it occurred to me that there is one significant advantage to assessing without trying to fulfill any specific criteria for admission to a gifted program. If the assessment is done simply for information purposes, then it's less likely to create stress and pressure to do well and obtain certain scores, and much less likely to contribute to a competitive attitude between parents/students. When the stakes are low, or none, there isn't any pressure to perform.

Sorry, I just meant that I have had my questions answered by most of you. I think the discussion about whether or not to test at whatever age is important. I do have a lot to think about. Honestly, we down right just want to know where our child is at. We will decide how to proceed for school accommodations or even the private school for giftedness if it is necessary. Like I think I mentioned, our state (WA) is pretty gifted friendly. Throughout the state, mainly near Seattle, there are a lot of resources.

Basically, we know our child is advanced. We want to know to what extent. (even before we really start to use the "g" word.) We don't know any other kids to compare to, and don't really think we are qualified to even attempt to compare with other kids. It would be better to have a licensed professional assess him and let us know how advanced/gifted he is in which subjects, which ones he's on par with kids his age and more information about his learning styles.
