Most Diverse Part of Vermont?!?

I know the question may be funny to some, as Vermont is pretty much known for being a lily-white state, but we are looking for a new place to live. I am pregnant and have a two year old. Looking for a small-to-medium town. The most important thing to us is liberal-minded people and a good amount of diversity. My husband is afro-caribbean and I am Russian, so we are looking for a place that would accept us and our children and not make them stand out like sore thumbs. Is that even possible in Vermont?

I have had a hard time finding "diversity" and have settled for "acceptance." If you do find diversity, sister, tell me where the action is!

Top four from of state down

Burlington area? Burlington is large but perhaps smaller towns. I'm not a big fan of the area but they are a college town with events.

Montepeiler area. Not barre. I love the vibe of this town. If I had to do it all over I would push for montepelier.

Norwich (if you can afford it and don't mind the uniform) I lived there for years but found it suffocating. It does border Hanover which is open minded dartmouth fairly diverse considering.

Putney. There is very little I don't like about putney. Brattleboro has nice feel and has some events worth it. Not a fan of bellows falls but who knows.

I don't know much about the Rutland/Bennington area.

Although gorgeous the northeast kingdom may not work. I always feel like I'm in the Yukon or something.

Maybe I'll see you around. Enjoy.

We've lived in four counties in Vermont (Caledonia, Chittenden, Lamoille, and Washington) and Burlington is by far the most diverse we've experienced. The only reason we moved was because of DH's job. We're caucasian and were looked at with suspicious eyes in Caledonia, until people found out which family from there we were related to. HTH! Good luck!
