I have a 9yo who is quite resistant to suggestions, no matter how veiled or gentle, even if she is asking for them.
Â
Lately she's been wanting to spell better, and I've done quite a lot of research on spelling curricula (so not my or her cup of tea), spelling games, and what not. I even wrote a poem about a knite with a knife who had white knuckles and shaky knees and a short story that included the words that fit into 'the I before E, unless after C' rule. The reception was poor, I have to admit. ![]()
Â
Today DD paced around, huffed and puffed, complained that she wanted to write something, but didn't want to ask me how to spell every word. Then she exlaimed, "A dictionary! I need a dictionary!" Lo and behold, I had a nice little Oxford Kids dictionary that I got at Value Village for 99 cents.
Â
Now she's been reading it for an hour, amazed and excited with what it has to offer. Halleluja! And I'm so relieved that I wasn't the one who suggested it at the first place ![]()
