We are 9 weeks postpartum and I feel like I'm getting my period back. I am moody, crampy, had a little brown discharge. The full deal.
I AM DEVASTATED. I seriously feel like I am going to cry any minute. It doesn't help that we are going camping for a week. Ugh.

I know that it is common to get one period after lochia because I had one with my son, but I don't remember if it FELT like a period or was just bleeding. I went on to be period-free until he was 14 months old.

I think that if this is really a period and not that, then it has to do with the fact that we give Z a soother. She flat out REFUSED my boob and screamed at me and out of desperation I gave her a soother and it filled her high suck need when she absolutely didn't want to nurse. Oh my gosh I totally brought this on myself. I am soooo mad you have no idea.

I want to know: If this is a period, is it possible to reverse getting my period every month by taking away her soother? There is no way in bloody hell (winky.gif) I will let her have a soother anymore if it will.

I have a friend who had one PP period then started cosleeping (and nursing a lot at night) and she didn't get another one until 10 months PP.

thank you! we cosleep and babywear and nurse on demand...i feel like this is unfair!! i haven't got a period yet but i dread it coming. *sigh*

the pacifiers are GONE. well they are still here, but she is not getting one. i will give it to her in the car so i don't crash from the screaming but other than that no way. i told my husband and he is completely on board even if she is grumpy readjusting to not being allowed a soother. i have an overactive letdown and i think that is a lot of the issue with her not wanting to nurse for comfort :( we've spent a lot of the day side-lying in bed and i have tricked her a few times with giving her the tip of my finger for 10 seconds and then stealthily sneaking my nipple in. it works about half the time and the other half i just pat her back with her on my chest (she currently is asleep on me).

Overactive let down is hard - I had that and over supply. I tried to get my DS to take a soother (he had severe reflux needing medication, and I was told a soother may help) but he was not interested at all.

Have you read kellymom for some tips?

Good luck and I hope the extra nursing does the trick and your period stays away!

(and by the way, gorgeous baby!)

Two of my babies took pacifiers and I still went without a period for 18 mths and 21 mths, respectively. However, with my first, I had OALD/oversupply and got my period at 4 mths pp. I really think the biggest culprit is probably that your breasts aren't being drained (since you have so much milk) and your body thinks it has a baby that's weaning. Does that make sense? I'd work hard on overcoming the OALD with block feeding and whatnot. It's probably your best bet (I didn't know about that with my first until he was 9 mths old, so I didn't have a chance to try and correct it).

This makes total sense - my friend also had OALD and block fed too - I didn't put 2 and 2 together until you mentioned it here!

Well for the record my DD did not have a soother and nursed every 45min 'round the clock until she was nearly 9 m/o but I got AF back 2 weeks after PP bleeding and never skipped ONE!

ugh. i hope my body decides to go with LAM and not have that happen. i will be so upset :( especially after assuming it would because it did with my son. ugh ugh ugh.

Mine came back 2 months pp this time desite cosleeping and EBF. She did like to sleep through the night, though. But I still get my AF every month. I will say that pumping before nursing really helped with my OALD.

And I never put it together until I read another poster mention it here on MDC!  Seriously, I don't know what I would do without my mdc mamas!

my 3rd baby took a pacifier because of oversupply/oald (my 2nd did not) and i had a period at 4.5 mo .. i was raelly upset because i was nursing TWO kids and my PPAF with my 2nd (who did not take a pacifier) came at 10.5 mo! - I took the pacifier away (only gave it in the car) at about 5 mo and didn't get another period until about 9 months..
