Is there an advantage in testing when you know what they are reacting to

DS has had pretty strong reactions to both cats and dogs. Eg Friday evening we were at a friends and DS lay on the sofa to go to sleep. Within 10 minutes he came in to us with a red swollen face and coughing. Only then did we remember that the neighbours cat often lays on our friends sofa.

We've had similar experiences with dogs when visiting people so we are pretty sure that is what he's reacting too.

Is there any advantage in getting him tested when we are 99% certain what he's reacting too at this point?

I guess if we do allergy testing for anything else we will add those in just to have it on paper.

For environmental allergies I would say "no".  There is no advantage.  If you see what he reacts to, eliminate it and see an improvement, you've done as much as a visit to an allergist could offer.

I might test if you suspect other symptoms are related to allergies and can't figure it out.  Or if the allergy is so debilitating you might eventually consider shots or need an EpiPen Jr..  Or if coughing starts to be part of the response and you might consider an inhaler.  Yes, if you do choose to test anyway, add the known allergies in.
