Looking for other moms in Kirkland, WA

Hi all,

I'm Luci and I'm due with my 1st in mid-September.

I was wondering if there are any other moms around me (Kirkland, WA).

I'd prefer staying on the Eastside, but Seattle could do it too considering I'm new to the area and don't know many people around yet.

I'm having my little girl at Overlake Hospital.

When in October are you due and where will you deliver?

I'm due Oct. 28th, so I'm guessing he'll come during the first week of November.  (All of my guys have come a little "late".)

I'll either be delivering at Puget Sound Birth Center, or at home... I haven't made up my mind yet...lol!  I had my last son at the birth center, and planned to have this baby there as well, but now I'm thinking I may just have my midwife come to me.  

Where did you live before Kirkland?

I was planing on delivering at the Eastside Birth Center, but due to a recently discovered blood disorder I'll have to go to the hospital...

I was a bit disappointed at myself at first, but I know it's nothing I could have done different and it's better to be safe than sorry.

I hope everything goes nice and smooth with your delivery and newborn!

I grew up in Arizona, but moved here in 2001.  I'm so grateful for all the sun we've had lately... I'm still having a hard time with the winter/fall here...lol.  

That sucks that you didn't get to use the birth center, but I'm sure everything will go great.  I've never had an actual labor/delivery at Overlake (my oldest was born at Valley Medical in Renton, 2nd son at Evergreen in Kirkland), but I lost a baby at 17 weeks pregnant, and I had a D&E at Overlake with him.  I have no complaints at all.  Every staff person that I dealt with was super nice.

Do you have a doula or anything?  I just decided to look yesterday (28+ weeks in...lol), and I emailed a couple that are offering free service for deliveries before November.  I didn't get any pictures from my last birth, and I regret that... so I thought that having an extra set of hands (besides just DH) would be nice.

Where did you find doulas attending births for free?! Although, I'm due in Nov so I guess I don't qualify for that :P lol. Hoping to find a cheap/student doula for my birth. I keep watching craigslist because I've seen student doulas advertise there before.. when I WASN'T pregnant.. figures! I'm 27 weeks. I'm in Kenmore, not terribly far from Kirkland :) I'll actually be in Kirkland later tonight because I'm going to try out a yoga class.

You'll have to let me know how the yoga class went!  Every time I'm pregnant, I swear that I'm going to try out prenatal yoga... then I never do.  

I've never thought to look on Craigslist for doulas!  I found several on doulamatch.net.  You should check there.  There are tons that are working toward certification, so their fee usually says something like $0-$300.  I'm not sure how they decide who has to pay what... but it couldn't hurt to email them and ask!  I haven't heard back from the 2 that I emailed yet... I'm terrified that I'll be in labor, and my other 3 kids will be running wild...lol.  Really sucks living here with no family!

I also had a procedure done at Overlake (D&C, lost my baby at 12 weeks) and can't complain. 
I'm just disappointed hat it was not my Plan A...

Yes, I do have a doula. It's my Bradley Method teacher!

She is great, but she is not a professional doula.  I can ask her if she'd help you too though.

She is not charging me. She's doing as a favor because my primary doula had an emergency surgery last week and won't recover in time to help me.

Anyways, I'd highly recommend her if she'd like to.  I'll ask her and let you both know.

Btw, she lives in Kenmore!

About the yoga classes, I've been doing since before getting preg 1st time and LOVE the studio.

They have amazing teachers, schedule options and workshops.

Btw, there is a very interesting workshop coming up. I think it'll be around the 15th or the 21st...

Another great thing about this studio is that they are starting a mom&baby yoga class this next quarter!

It's the 1st I found around here and I know the teacher (she's been in maternity leave for the past 6 months, but I used to take her classes) and she's lovely.

class was good! Definitely a good work out, holy crap, I forgot how difficult something as simple as downward dog is, lol. Arms were shakin. 

Jaime, you should come try it out! It'd rock to have another MDC mama in class :) And I tooootally know from experience from my first pregnancy when I did weekly yoga that it really makes you feel good. If I missed a week for whatever reason, I could *definitely* tell because I'd have more aches and pains.

That's awesome that you've got your Bradley Method teacher to help you!  How handy is that?  haha...  I still have yet to hear back from either doula that I emailed.  I checked craigslist as well, but there was no one in this area.

And now I'm checking doula match! There's a few I might email, see if we click. 

No worries about looking like a sissy, there was this one pose.. like downward dog but legs in more like a straddle, in the middle of that I just got down, took a break, and tried again.. and still gave up before everyone else came out of it, haha. No shame! Very "listen to your body, and if it doesn't feel right, stop" so no one's going to be like, "geez, sissy" if you do just that. And especially for like, regulars who she knows their limitations, when introducing different poses she'd address an individual and be like, "you can do it this way instead".. and pretty much like half the class did some sort of variation of at least one pose. Even the really experienced ones. No big deal!

Hello there- just found this thread....how are you expecting mamas doing?  I live in Woodinville...and have a 3 month old.  I gave birth at home with the PSBC midwives.  It was a great experience!

I had my last son at the birth center!  Did you see Heike?  I want to have this baby at home, but *might* opt to go to the birth center again.  I really, really loved their tub...lol.
