tying board ideas

I'm a homeschooling Montessori mama in search of a beautiful idea on creating a tying board. I'd like to make something a little more appealing than a traditional Montessori dressing board so that my 4 y.o. DS can learn to tie his shoes. I will be using this for his co-op as well, so I was hoping to create it for use as a station activity. I've looked around for interesting and pretty ideas but haven't come up with anything. The only thing I can come up with myself is to create a vest for an oversized stuffy toy and sew ties on the vest to practice. I'd prefer to steer away from using a stuffy toy, so that the focus is on the tying rather than the toy, Kwim? Any ideas are appreciated!

If you want to help your ds learn shoe tying - maybe provide some sort of "practice shoe" instead of a board? Here's a wooden one. I found another wooden one on Etsy, just search for "practice shoe".

Or you could use a real shoe, maybe attach it to a wooden board for stability?

Thanks, I've seen those as well. Melissa & Doug make those and I think I also saw one at IKEA.

I'm actually looking to make something where I can incorporate different thicknesses of ribbon to accommodate different stages. The dressing boards and even the wooden shoe, just seem a bit drab to me. I might just make one anyway to get started. He might end up liking it just the same!
