if your LO(s) fall asleep in the car, can you successfully transfer them into your house w/o...

i'm asking b/c i have almost never had any luck doing the transfer in to the house from the car seat. and FWIW, i'm not talking about those "bucket" seats that click in and out of the car seat base. i'm talking about having to unbelt and carry in a sleeping baby -- then laying him or her down in bed, on a swing, on the couch, even on the floor i guess. without waking them up. can you do it?

depends on how sleepy but I do it a lot :)  I think it gets harder the older she gets though

nope never could. 

dd gave up naps at 2. till then if she fell asleep in the car i'd stay there reading till she woke up. i always kept snacks and a book for me in the car for that reason. 

however she was a screamer till 1. she never fell asleep in the car unless it was a really long day. but after she stopped screaming in the car if she fell asleep then that 5 mins would be her nap time. however if i stayed in the car she'd sleep for maybe an hour.

So here is the thing about my DD she will wake right up if I try and transfer her to the house but she will stay fast asleep if I wrap her on my back! It's the craziest thing!

Absolutely not - not with either of them.  They're really light sleepers or something I think.  

I also never had any luck with those bucket seats that click in and out.   And for ages I couldn't understand people who said they would put their kids in the car to get them to nap - because for that to work for mine (*if* they got past the initial screaming stage - a bit if) I would have to keep driving around for the entire nap at a constant speed.  Any slowing down or stopping would immediately wake them up and then they'd go straight back to the screaming thing - except this time with no chance of going back to sleep.

Also never had any luck with 'wearing them down' - if they fell asleep on my back in order to keep them asleep I had to keep them on my back for the whole nap while constantly moving - pretty exhausting!

i am a little confused here. are you saying that if you transfer her from the car to ur back she'll stay asleep? or if you transfer her from ur back tot the bed she'll stay asleep? or if you do about your day with her on ur back she'll stay asleep?

If she falls asleep in the car and I take her out of her car seat and put her directly on my back and wrap her in our didy wrap she somehow will stay asleep, but if I take her out of the car and try to lie her down (even if I offer nursing) she will wake right up. She has to stay on my back once the transfer is made and she is 22 m/o now! I usually just go stroll around a store or something.

Now if we go for a walk and she is already wrapped on my back and falls asleep on my back and we get home within 30mins of her falling asleep, I can transfer her to the bed without her waking at all.

It's just so strange to me that she will transfer to and from BWing but not the car seat. I guess it's b/c she is so used to it though b/c we never did the infant car seat (straight to convertible) so when she fell asleep I would always scoop her up and wrap her.

Nope, never, any of them, not even when they were in the bucket seat. My oldest would wake up if I down shifted and at every stop light too.

thanks for the clarification. dd wouldnt do transitions till she was much older. wrapped up we can walk thru things, be at a coffee house loud band playing and dd can stay asleep. but try getting her out of the wrap or car seat and she would wake up immediately.

Rarely unless she is out for the night. I really do dread if she falls asleep in the car the last few minutes before getting home since its enough of a power nap to give her a recharge. Any type of naps that done in the car, or not in her crib just mess with her sleeping.

Never ever. Ds would actually never sleep in public (never fell asleep being worn and never in a stroller). He's pop awake as soon as the car turned off. Dd would sleep for a little bit as long as you didn't move her. We spent some naptimes sitting in the car in the garage letting her sleep, because I was NOT going to wake her up by moving her.

Depends on the kid.  Yes to two of them, no to the other.  I voted yes.  My youngest now is superb at transitioning from the car to a bed.

for my 2 year old, usually yes, but before he was moved to his own bed and we stopped nursing, never. I have a 2 month old as well and I'm not sure what she's gonna be like. The carseat isn't a sleep inducer yet.

Nope. Never. Not car-to-house, not sling-to-bed, not my bed to his bed, not sling-to-crib [before we abandoned the whole idea of a crib]. For my son's entire babyhood I had to either nurse or sing him to sleep and then somehow extricate myself without waking him up.  I had all the squeaky parts of his floor memorized. It was awful!

It's been different with all my kids.

DS1...can't remember very well, to be honest. We didn't own a car when he was a baby, so we rarely had to worry about it.

DD1 was totally unpredictable, but dh had better luck than I did, in general.

DS2 would sleep through any kind of transfer.

Until today, I would have said that I can never transfer dd2, but it worked today. That was probably because I had to take her out twice when she'd dozed off, so by the time we actually got home and I transferred her to a place where she could sleep, she was exhausted! In general, she doesn't transfer well. I used to carry her in a bucket a lot, and people would give me that "why don't you just get her out and sling/carry/whatever her?" stuff, and I'd just laugh. It was leave her in the bucket or deal with a cranky, tired baby for hours.

Never.  Not even with the bucket seats as a baby.  Ds is a seriously light sleeper.  He'd wake up when I shut off the motor, anyway.

With my oldest, I never could when she was a baby. And if the car came to a red light or something, she would wake right up. Now that she's almost 5, I can transfer her (if we're driving at night or she's had a really long day).

With my youngest, I haven't been able to -- he wakes up to nurse, but then won't go back to sleep -- but DH can. But he'll sleep in a stopped car, so I'll just sit in the car with him while he finishes the nap. But last week I was able to transfer him, so maybe there's hope!
