DS (15mo) was diagnosed w/a yeast infection at the doctor a week and a half ago. He had been itching for weeks before taking him, but he's just red on the tip of his penis, scrotum, and bottom. It just looked normal to me, I felt so bad, I had no idea! We'd also been to an ND a couple times before this who didn't seem to notice the problem. I'm still not even positive it's yeast (we'd never been to that ped before and don't know how much I trust her). She prescribed him nystatin w/a steroid in it. I didn't want to give him a steroid cream so I bought over the counter nystatin and have been applying it twice/day.
I've read up a lot on yeast and have been doing everything: I spray him w/a water and grapefruit seed extract (diluted of course), put coconut oil on w/drops of GSE and TTO in it, put ACV in his bathwater, leave him naked (which we always did anyway), put GSE in his drinks.
He's never eaten refined sugar or much grains and now I've completely cut them out. He eats lots of veggies, beans, homeade (unsweetened) yogurt, drinks homeade bone broth, and fermented veggies (yeah, he has always eaten healthier than any kid I know - we eat Traditional foods diet), a heavy dose probiotic, and he still nurses.
I also treat his dipes every time I wash them w/GSE, hot water, hot dry, and ACV rinse.
We've been doing this for 1 1/2 weeks and the pinkness is still there. Starting yesterday he has a mucousy cough and tons of clear snot. Tons of mucous I can hear in his lungs!
So we have a "2nd opinion" doctor appt today, but I honestly don't have much faith in doctors (he's been sick soooo much in his little life and I contribute it to antibiotics I was on after having him and ones he's taken that have just made him sicker).
Has anyone battled yeast and kicked it? How long should it take? Is the excess mucous maybe a sign of the yeast leaving his body or another symptom?
Any advice, experiences, even opinions, are welcome! I am going crazy here, my poor little guy always seems to be sick and I desperately want him better, I feel so helpless!!
Oh, and I'm preggers and show no signs of yeast? Is that weird?
