babies with silent gerd

i cant figure out if i should post this here, or in health and healing, or breastfeeding or some other forum or what. please move if necessary

ds2 (11m) was diagnosed with silent gerd today,(he already has laryngomalacia) and the dr, although he was somewhat supportive of natural treatment, was quick to hand me a prescription and get us out the door and i never got any help as to what i should do. sigh.

can someone who maybe has btdt or has these things bookmarked please help me with any articles/facts/threads about silent gerd/breastfeeding/natural treatments and elimination diets? im looking over kellymom already, and just bought the hazel wood inspired by finn necklace.

im kinda overwhelmed and having a hard time zoning in on what i should be reading

thank you so much

Both of my babies had reflux, though they were diagnosed (by me, in dd's case) quite a bit earlier (around 4mo in ds's case; at 5 weeks or so with dd). ds was on meds for a few months (Axid) and it helped a LOT--if your LO is already suffering damage from the GERD, I think getting him on meds is not a bad idea. You may need to work on dosage to get it working right, and you may also need to try different meds if the first one doesn't do it for you.

However, I eventually figured out that in our case, food sensitivities were to blame. Once I eliminated dairy, ds's reflux disappeared and we could stop the meds completely. dd was never on meds, though I got a prescription, because I knew the drill by that stage and figured out that dairy, soy and caffeine were her triggers. I read recently somewhere that something like 90% of reflux/GERD cases are a result of food intolerance, so I would strongly encourage you to investigate this. Dairy and soy are the most common culprits, so start there.

Chiro adjustments helped dd quite a bit, too, while we were waiting for the elimination diet to do its thing.

There used to be quite a few threads about this around (when we were in the thick of it), so doing a search for "reflux" or "GERD" should pull them up--lots of experienced mamas out there. hth
