Midwives in Eugene Oregon Area

Thread Starter

Hi All,

I apologize if this has already been asked..

Do you know if any of the midwives (aside from Peace Health) will deliver at the hospital if asked?  My husband is not completely comfortable with the idea of a home birth, but we both know that we definitely want a midwife.

Thanks all!

Have you considered a free-standing birth center like Sacred Waters? He may be more comfortable with that.

My home birth was attended by Colleen Forbes, CPM, LDM. I know she attended the hospital birth of my friend's baby, and she has absolutely my highest recommendation for attentiveness, professionalism and standard of care. I ♥ Colleen (if you call, tell her Leah says hi :-)

Colleen was also my midwife. My baby turned after a night of labor, and we ended up having to go to the hospital the morning after that. Colleen did absolutely everything she could do to get my stubborn little guy to budge! I am grateful that I got to do most of my laboring at home, Thirty-two hours in is when we transported. Colleen was present, but was not allowed to do the delivery.
I am absolutely going to choose her next time around, too. She is warm and professional and very flexible. I appreciate how supportive and realistic she is.
My husband wasn't as gung-ho for home birthing as I was, although he liked the idea to a degree. After seeing the difference in settings, he is very much in favor of home birth now.

CPMs do not have hospital privileges in Eugene. Your choice is usually CNMs at the Peacehealth birth center (who will also deliver at the hospital, in fact, 70%-ish of the women who book for the birth center get risked out to the hospital, caveat emptor), or CPMs who will deliver at home or Sacred Waters birth center.

I live about 7 minutes from Riverbend, and Elise Hansen is my midwife. She's a CPM. I have some risk factors, so she consults with Vern Katz about those, and he's respectful of her, even though he thinks I'm a bit of a nut job at my age and weight for considering a homebirth.

We're very likely to do a home birth. None of the birth centers will have me, but I'm comfortable with the transport time between here and Riverbend.
