Favorite Nursing Bra?

Thread Starter

I'm in my third trimester and beginning the search for bras that will support my continually growing breasts and function as a nursing bra later.  I'm noticing a lot of bras with form fitted cups and underwires (I've always been told underwires should generally be avoided). I don't want formed cups because they  have less capacity to grow I would think, and because I don't want anything to help trap in moisture.  I spoke today with a mom bra sales lady who nursed two kids and she said I should also avoid cotton because it doesn't wick moisture and it looses it's shape once damp or wet.  I purchased a Bella Materna "Anytime" style nursing bra

which I like.  It's supportive but still offers some room to grow.

I also looked at Bravado "the Sublime bra" style.  Anyone used these?

What are your favorite nursing bras?  Why?  How durable have they been?

And on a side note, it's shocking how big my breasts are!  I was a comfortable B.  The bra I purchased today was an E/F and the other I tried on was an F/G!  Oh my goodness!  I feel like I have small gnomes hanging off my chest these days.  And it's amazing how differently men treat me if I am wearing anything other than a tent.  They all have this stupid, sheepish grin on their faces when they talk to me.  It's so weird.

I love bravado.  I wear the tanks as a daily 'mom uniform'.  So awesome since they are comfy, accomdating to size, and keep the belly covered.  I have a bavado body silk (very comfy), an original (perfect for sleeping) and the spice one- my very least favorite- just lacks shape and form.

As for durability- I have a few glamourmom tanks and those are on 3rd baby(starting to get pretty rough looking though- will retire when I wean DS3), the bravados are all on the second- all faded- but absolutely functional.  And the tanks are worn daily.  The bras are worn for sleep or when I dress up and need an actual bra- all in perfect shape and on the 2nd or 3rd baby.

I have super comfy, less supportive bras I like for everyday, around the house/sleeping in, and then some that are more supportive underwires for going out.

The Bravado Original are good for around the house, super comfy, but not all that supportive. I wear the double plus style which is like a sports bra, and it's not very flattering under t-shirts but holds everything up enough so they don't sag. It's comfy enough to sleep in. They hold up very good to repeated washings through multiple kids too.

I also like the Melinda G T-Shirt bra. It's extremely comfy but not all that supportive. It has a lot of stretch in the cups and separates well. It's also great for sleeping.

For sleeping, my favorites are the sleep bras from Motherhood Maternity. They offer no support, just something to hold nursing pads in place, but they make me forget I'm wearing a bra at all.

Any of those above options allow for size fluctuation for me during engorgement.

Then, I also like to have some more supportive options for going out. I like the Anita underwires, both the 5035 and 5044. They are the most comfy nursing underwires I've tried and very supportive.

I don't know what band size you are, but shopping for large breasts SUCKS doesn't it? let alone trying to find nursing bras for *changing* boobs. UGHHH. honestly, i've had such terrible luck with anything i tried on in store. they  just didn't work, fit right, pinched whatever it was...i resorted to trying something online and the first i tried was terrible too and i almost gave up. then i tried leading lady, have you heard of it? i guess it must be a small company bc i hadnt before a friend told me, but i really like the stuff i got. it fit me properly and was actually something a bra had not been for me: COMFORTABLE. i would highly recommend looking there, especially with the current promotion going on. i was looking at their stock the other day and they have a thing where you have to like leading lady on facebook and you get 30% off, not a bad deal, eh? good luck!
