Did you give up your morning joe?

If so, what did you replace it with?

I am struggling giving up coffee.  I have gone a few weeks without it but have yet to give it up totally.  Tea isn't cutting it.  Is there anything else, that's of course safe to take while TTC, that would help ease the pain of giving up coffee?  Something that gives a little boost in the morning?

TIA!

I drink decaf coffee every morning. A good, strong tasting cup. I don't miss the caffeine at all!

I have a little coffee grinder at home, so I buy a dark, decaf bean and then a less-strong real bean (like a flavored roast) from the self-serve dispensers at the store. Then I mix them together before I grind them. I still need a little caffeine, but I find the ritual is almost as important. I especially feel the need on the way to work in the morning. I have to have that cup with me in the car. I try to eat well during the day, lots of fruits and veggies and nothing too heavy or starchy, so I don't have a carb coma! I used to eat heavy stuff all the time and try to counteract it with an espresso late in the day. Those days are over now! I also try to go to bed earlier. I know this is all common sense stuff, but I'm right there with you wishing I could just chug coffee to my heart's content.

Have you been trying to wean yourself off for a while or just starting? I started adding decaf before we were TTC just so I could ease into it gradually, and also so that if I got migraines from it I could actually take something. But it has helped to go into it slowly over a period of time.

I do the decaf thing too!  I buy some yummy, darker decaf roast (try to stick to organic when I can).  And, Reno, I totally agree with the ritual aspect of it-- it's like a need the coffee to start my day especially right when I get to work  caffix.gif

I've never heard anything bad about drinking decaf-- have you gals?

I would stick to Swiss Water Process decaf.  The chemicals used to decafinate coffee the conventional way are probably worse for you than any amount of caffiene you might ingest.

I recently gave up coffee also (1 week ago).  I had to go out and get some SWP last weekend becuase my husband kept making himself coffee and it was killing me.  It's totally an emotional addiction for me.  I'm fine without the caffiene but I just LOVE coffee!!

I was wondering that as well.  Where do you find SWP decaf?  Is that a brand or a specific way of making it?

No, I never gave up my coffee -- even while pg!

Swiss Water Process is how they decaffeinate the coffee:  http://www.swisswater.com/consumer/swiss-water-process

It's not a brand, any brand can use the process.  I personally had to drive about 40 minutes to buy some :(

What about CO2 extraction? That is chem-free and how they decaffeinate the fair-trade coffee at my supermarket.

What brand did you buy?  I am just curious because I have yet to find one I like.  I ordered something on Amazon because it was easy to find but it has "hints of raisin" which just about makes my pregnant self want to puke.  I would love to find a good brand!

I just learned about this process recently and haven't really looked into it.  What little I read about it made it seem as safe as SWP.  I'll have to look into it further.

I bought a few blends from Baltimore Coffee & Tea.  http://www.baltcoffee.com/
