A message from MDC: We would love to hear from our MDC parents on their experience with Quit Nits. MDC will reimburse up to 5 MDC members who purchase & review Quit Nits on MDC. Further details are posted below by our Account Coordinator, Chris Elias28. Thank you for reading.

A message from our sponsor:

A Safe Way to Eliminate Head Lice

No parent wants to discover that their child’s hair is crawling with head lice, yet this parasitic invasion is a fact of life for millions of Americans each year.  Head lice have been found on the hair and scalps of people worldwide, evidenced as far back as Egyptian mummies. A wide variety of treatments have been used to eliminate them – from rigorous combing, to smothering them with olive oil, peanut butter or petroleum jelly, to chemical treatments containing pesticides that can cause severe side effects. Spread by direct contact with the head or hair of someone already infested, head lice can also be transferred by sharing personal items such as brushes, hats and even linens.

As the school year begins, there is no need to panic and reach for harsh, toxic chemicals to kill lice and their eggs.  Choosing a natural solution is important for the health of your family.  Since protecting your children is your number one priority, you don’t need to sacrifice on that commitment to kill head lice.  A treatment made with natural active ingredients will work very effectively and without the risk of exposing your children or yourself to pesticides.

The Quit Nits treatment is an effective, natural formula. Its special formulation kills bugs and eggs by exposing them to plant-based, homeopathic ingredients. Quit Nits was created by mother-of-three, Leanne Preston, whose non-toxic formula has revolutionized the treatment of head lice from Australia to Europe, and is now available throughout the U.S.

The Quit Nits treatment involves just two simple steps: (1) apply the treatment cream to dry hair, and leave it on, covered with the included cap for four hours, and (2) wash the treatment cream out. No further combing is required to remove live lice, although a comb is included in the kit to help remove dead lice and nits.

“What makes Quit Nits Kit and Spray so unique is its homeopathic formulation of natural ingredients. The plant-based ingredients in the product - Quassia Amara, Eucalyptus Globulus, Staphysagria & Sabadilla - have a long history of use against lice,” said John Found, Technical Director for Quit Nits. “When parents face a challenge like head lice, having Quit Nits on hand in the medicine cabinet is a fast, effective and worry-free way to treat the problem,” Found noted.

The chemical pesticide free formula is also safe for the environment since it will not pollute waterways when it is washed down the drain.  Quit Nits products are better for children, better for you and better for the environment....and they work!

how does it kill bugs without being a pesticide?  Perhaps a dictionary might be of some use here?

Really?  REALLY???

If there are any mamas out there who have used this product and found it to be effective, please let us know!  Thank you!

I used it on myself and on my 2 year old son last year.  A niece came back from summer camp and infested the rest of us.

Quit Nits worked for us.  One day we had lice, they next day they were gone.  You're supposed to leave product in the hair or at least 4 hours - or better yet overnight if you're able to - and then wash off.  The downside is that, for an active 2 year old, 4 hours with a shower cap on (to keep hair moist) feels like forever.  But, I'd rather go through that discomfort than expose a young child to toxic pesticides, which have a 50-50 chance of working the first time out since bugs these days are resistant to common pesticides.

Hope this helps!

To clarify, the active ingredients in Quit Nits are natural botanical ingredients - not the synthetic or chemical pesticides found in leading head lice treatments.

The active ingredients in Quit Nits, including Quassia Amara, a plant, have been shown to kill lice and their eggs in both lab tests and clinical studies.

So what makes Quit Nits homeopathic?  Isn't the idea behind homeopathy that you treat a condition by using a substance that produces the same symptoms as the condition?  I don't see how this product fits in with that idea.

Yeah...homeopathic is not necessarily the same thing as "natural" or "herbal." Homeopathic means that in order to curb wheezing, you give a substance that causes wheezing.

Still waiting to hear from a mom who has used this product and says it works (no offense, but the VP of marketing for the product may not be the most objective reference, though it may well have worked for her...).

This page makes it sound like they are calling this a homeopathic product.

i am very interested in this product. i am not sure it is sold newar me. i will have to look for it.

DSD's sister comes to visit us sometimes and she has had lice for a year! every time she comes over we get it again. they have tried all the different products on her including the pill they can give. every time she gives it to us it takes us 3 weeks to get rid of it. and the only thing that works is to pick them out by hand. going throught the hair one thin row at a time removing every egg, every adult bug, and every baby bug, which takes hours every day. and then they cant do anything, go anywhere, or play with anybody for fear of spreading them. i will be buying this product to try for ourselves and i will GIVE this to my dsd's sister's family as well. i hope it works. i also heard that the really cheap hair gel from dollar general effectively kills them as well if you use it every yda for 2 weeks.

All I can say is that the best solution is to find a treatment that works for you and Comb Comb Comb to get it out. My son got it at camp last year and we went to one of those natural places that does the combing for you. basically nothing is perfect, but with combing  you can ensure it is gone (that is what they told me). In my area they sell this at Whole foods and I have it in my cabinet, but luckily have not had to use it. I do use the Hylands Quit Nits preventative and (fingers crossed) we have been free of the outbreaks at school. I spray my boys daily with it and they have their instructions on not sharing pillows and hats, etc... I would love to hear from people who have used it since I wonder as well about the effectiveness.

Why aren't you and ThaoL addressing the issue of why this HERBAL product is being marketed as HOMEOPATHIC?

Hi Blessedwithboys,

I work with our sponsors and I will jump in from time to time to help the community and make clarifications when needed.  I will let Thao know that you would like to hear from her on this product's ingredients and how they work.

Thank you for your interest!

Chris
