How in the world will I get these clean...?

So, we moved into a new house in the beginning of MAY.  I *just* found a tiny pail that has 5 or 6 dirty dipes in it!!!  DH set it in the garage when we first moved in, and never bothered bringing it in... just kept setting more things in the garage around it.  I was wondering where some of my dipes went, and now that I know... what in the heck do I do with them?  I would really, really hate to just toss them, since a couple of them I had made especially for my DS, and spent a good chunk of change on them.

Should I just repeat my washing process as many times as it takes to clean them and get the stench out?  Use OxyClean?  I don't know what to do!

Suggestions?

I would just toss. Just too afraid they would contaminate the other diapers with mold and mildew if not other germs. Not to mention the stain will probably never get out.

oh... oxyclean is fine to use on diapers.  soak them in a strong solution.  you could always try it and wash by themselves and hang to bleach in the sun for a long long time.  maybe a vinegar soak otherwise?

i wouldn't be afraid to use some very diluted bleach itself on the inserts or prefolds (maybe not PUL, i don't know if bleach would be bad) either.

You can do a small wash on just those diapers. You can do a scoop of the oxyclean if you don't have a septic tank. Or you can do a 1/4 cup of bleach. As long as you add the bleach using the dispenser or add it to the water after it has been filled with water, then you shouldn't run the risk of bleaching them. CottonBabies recommends the bleach in the wash for BGs once in awhile so it should be fine for the PUL. But don't toss your precious diapers. On Everything Birth we have Birth Depot to sell your used diapers. If you are that concerned you could reach out to people there and see if someone would want to put the effort into them.

I will do this!  I'm totally willing to put the effort in.  I would be super, super sad to get rid of them.  They were special made for me, and I paid good money!

I kind of feel like I should make DH deal with them, since he hid them so well when we moved in  here... :)  Pretty sure they'd wind up in the trash if I suggested that he handle them though.

I would throw them away. But I understand you not wanting to. Bleach and very hot water would be a good thing to start with. Also, I'd check first to make sure that there isn't anything growing in the diaper.

I've seen pictures of that kind of thing and it's super scary. hide.gif

I would soak them a few times in oxy clean for poo diapers, for pee, probably just once.  Then do a few rinse cycles in the washer.  Then do a wash with bleach.  Good luck!
