How to ease the hormonal transition of weaning for mom

Hi mamas,

I haven't been as active on Mothering as I used to, but I come with a question now.

Over the past six weeks I've been weaning my 14 month old for medical-related reasons. My wife and I co-breastfeed, so DD still breastfeeds from her round the clock. It's been an easy transition for my daughter, but a bit harder on me. The hormonal changes are definitely hitting me hard. I need to be completely done breastfeeding in the next two weeks.

I've seen several threads about weaning-related hormonal changes, but not many about how people have dealt with it. I'm interested in natural ways to help balance my hormones or boost my mood since I have been really cranky during this transition. Do I just let it pass? Is there a supplement I can take? Yoga poses? Chiropractic? Acupuncture? What has worked for you?

Thanks in advance!

No experience personally, but I have heard of women using calcium and magnesium supplements, and evening primrose oil to ease the hormonal response to breastfeeding and the menstrual cycle, so that may be of some use for weaning. (Worth googling?)

I'm sorry to hear that you are having health issues - hope you heal as you need to. And how wonderful for your daughter that she doesn't have to wean even if you do. I hope that helps with your transition.

Good luck!
