Hives after vaccinations?

My 6-month old identical boy twins had their well visit yesterday. We're doing a delayed vax schedule so they had their second dose of Pediarx and Prevnar yesterday. Their first dose was at their 2-month appt. At that time, they were super fussy but that was the only reaction. After we got them home yesterday (about a half hour after the vaxes), I was putting them into their high chairs for some sweet potato, and I noticed that they each had several "mosquito bites" on their neck/head. Within a few minutes, it became clear that we were dealing with hives in both boys. Took them in to the ped today and she said it would be "very unusual" for this to have been a reaction to the vax, and maybe it was the new sweet potato. But the hives started coming on before I'd given the sweet potato to them (I know, total stupid rookie mom move to introduce a new food after shots... Argh).

Our cranial sacral therapist said to give them 500 mg of vitamin C a day for the next week, and to visit a homeopath as well. For now we're doing oatmeal baths.

Anyway, wondering if anyone has experienced this type of reaction in their babes. What dd you do? My gut says this was definitely a reaction to the vaxes, even though it's "very unusual". Thoughts?

if there was latex in the vaccines, its very possible its a reaction.  Touching latex will do that to me.

The "rookie move" doesn't matter at all, obviously, since the hives started before they tried the new food.

If the hives happened after introducing a new food, you would suspect the food, and so would your pediatrician. But because pediatricians are so indoctrinated regarding vaccines, of course it "can't" be the vaccine(s)...

I'd say the "rookie move" was giving them 4-6 vaccines at once, depending on how they are counted. (Prevnar, plus Pediarix (DTaP, polio, and hepatitis B) Now you won't know which one caused it, and you'll have to avoid all those vaccines in the future. Which could turn out to be a very good thing.

My son had a reaction after his 5th dose of DTaP (not sure what brand).  I found out that it's more likely to have a more severe reaction with subsequent doses than with the first one, so I would caution you to proceed very carefully about further vaccinations.  Hives are not a very big deal on the surface, but we don't know what's going on internally that is causing the reaction.

It never ceases to amaze me that a doctor would blame sweet potatoes and not vaccines for an allergic reaction.  Do they even know what's IN vaccines??
