Special Needs Parent Workshop Inquiry

Thread Starter

Hello all,

We are a non-profit organization in the Monterey County of California. We are doing some general research on parent workshops, primarily for parents of special needs children. We would love your feedback or any other questions you can think of.

What would be the primary reason for not attending a parent workshop?

On what days and times would you be more likely to attend a parent workshop?

What are the problems you have come across with workshops?

I am not from CA, but here is my response:

What would be the primary reason for not attending a parent workshop?

1.  It did not provide the information I was seeking

2.  It was scheduled at a time where I am unable to attend.  It is extremely difficult to find sitters for my special needs children.

On what days and times would you be more likely to attend a parent workshop?

I work full time so the evenings and weekends would be best.  Lunch might be doable, but I only have 1 hr.  Since I am a parent that uses most of her leave for doc appts, IEP meetings and other issues related to my kids' special needs I try to save my leave for my children or workshops that are necessary.  However, if you provided webinars or recorded presentations via Adobe Go-to-meeting and post it on your website, I would be able to view the information when my children are asleep and when I do most of my home related work - 9pm to 1am.

What are the problems you have come across with workshops?

1.  The presentation of the workshop really doesn't address my issues and there is not enough time for comments.

2.  The information presented is 'over my head.'
