Exersaucer alternative???

Need a safe way to have my 8 month old baby in the kitchen when I'm cooking or doing laundry but don't want one of those horrific exercausers.  I don't want to use her high chair but need something to keep her safely buckled in but yet entertained peacefully.  Appreciate any suggestions  any

Is your issue just that they are ugly or do you think they are bad for your baby.  Mine isn't old enough for one but I am getting a hand-me-down from a friend (and it is ugly as sin) but from what I have observed it is very stimulating and entertaining for her child.  I don't think they are all bad even if used in moderation.  Even at 2 mo my baby enjoys some time not being held - stretching in his crib watching his mobile, kicking about on his playmate, swiping at the dangliy things on the bouncy seat.  We aren't bad mom's for putting our babies down and expecting them to entertain themselves a bit.

May not be much help here, but the highchair has worked for us.  He hated the exersaucer.  In the highchair, he's up on the same level as us and can see what I'm doing in the kitchen and "help" (ie:  I give him random kitchen stuff to entertain him, fruit, etc.).  I have heard of moms babywearing around the kitchen, but it never quite worked for us.

I don't have one but some moms use an ergo and carry lo on their backs.

I wear DD a lot when Im cooking. At 8 months, we used a Johnny Jump Up in the kitchen. What about a bumbo chair, since you could move that around and the baby could be sitting in the middle of what you are doing. You could put it on the counter, on the table, ect.

My LO plays on the floor while I cook. I'll bring some toys into the kitchen or he occupies himself with swinging one of the many doors (our kitchen has 4 opening into it!).

DS also loves his Johnny Jump Up - ours is set up in the basement for use when I do laundry. Been using it since he was 5 months or so. It's great because it's the one thing he can't climb out of (yet).

Ditto.  The height was great for face-to-face interaction while doing chores.  I know a lot of people really try to reserve the high chair for eating, though.  Have you tried (if you have the space) the pack and play?  We ever used one with DD, but I know there's a window of time when some babies do actually enjoy having a little space of their own.  Offers more freedom of movement than the exersaucer.   Oh, and we also have an infant-to-toddler rocker.  Something like that might work.

if the issue is thats it large or ugly or the like, we have two of these, great for travel, across the state or across the house

by 7 month old twins 15 and 18pounds are almost big enough for them now and will not grow out of them ANY time soon, the height is adjustable and the seat is very roomy

on this i like is that i can have just one of two toys, my son gets over whelmed with too many toys in his face, so i rotate just a few thru his playtime.
