first period after birth

okay so i dont know where exactly to post this but i am EBF my daughter who i had d6 weeks ago and yesterday i started bleeding and thought it was my period coming back now i'm not so sure i'm in a lot of pain and the blood is brown not red like a normal period and i mean dark brown this may be TMI but i need some help has anyone experianced this or know whats possibly going on anything would be greatly appreciated:) thank you

If you are in a lot of pain I'd encourage you to call your doctor/midwife and see what they suggest. It may be a period, it may be postpartum lochia/discharge, or it may be something that needs further medical investigation.

Any smell? Do you have a fever or are you feeling unwell? Have you increased your activity greatly recently?

I think "they" say bleeding within the first 12 weeks is lochia not a period.

Hi. I searched the forum and found your post. I am having the same issue. Brown discharge after 7 weeks.. Since you posted a couple of months ago, I am curious as to what you found out? Is it periods or post delivery discharge?

Not the OP but....

I had that with my youngest...and sure enough, one month later had it again only heavier and with cramps...I hope it's just leftover in your case though!

Are you nursing around the clock with no artificial nipples? If so there is a higher chance it is not your period. I was exclusively pumping and feeding via bottle after several weeks of almost no nipple stimulation/breast emptying at all, so I attribute the early return to that.
