I'm subscribing this month so I can hopefully get motivated to up my mileage.  I have been horrible at stopping after the 3 mile mark.  I need to get back up into the 8-10 range.  Maybe it's the heat.... I don't know.

Here's to you fabulous runners!

alex~hug.gif Thinking of you.

rm~Yikes! goodvibes.gif for your DH!

real~Yep, we'll be in the same AG if I sign up. In triathlon, your age is as of Dec. 31. So I get to walk around all summer with a big fat 35 on my calf, when in fact, I will not be 35 for three more months! irked.giflol.gif

plady~In my defense, I was not schooling or training OR mothering while I was blogging. Summer break + taper + kid on a plane = blogging, apparently. orngtongue.gif

Thanks for all the kind words on the blog post, ladies! I hope to get part two up soon, but with my sister and her family heading this way for a week, we shall see!

Hard day at work today...it was a relatively easy morning, then all hell broke loose in the afternoon. Patients with altered mental status all over the place...one pulled out the IV access to her implanted port...we had to hold one down to put a tube down his nose. Just all kinds of craziness. I'm tired! But, no more work till next Wednesday. It's time for vacation! And, you know, a half-ironman. rolleyes.gif

RM--praying. Also, the Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso is decent if you need it. I went to school there (at the university, not the hospital).

mommajb-- I'm lol.gif about Charlotte in the jogger. I've already started getting R used to the idea that she will have outgrown the double jogger next year and will need to run or bike with me. She's a lightweight, but her head hits the canopy if it's folded at all. That, and I refuse to push a 7-1/2 yo in a jogger next summer. rolleyes.gif

Plady--glad you made it to the gym.

kerc--can you send me some muffins? :P I have zucchini and a muffin recipe, but at nearly 11 pm my house is still 80 degrees. No way I'm turning on the oven until it cools down.

zub-- grouphug.gif

tjsmama--eh, you'll still smoke me on the bike and place ahead of me anyhow. lol.gif

RR: biked 16ish miles, of which 6 were with the kids, some school supplies, and more groceries than I probably should have bought knowing that I had to bike them home. That didn't stop us from taking a short detour to watch the mall being torn down though. lol.gif Then I swam 1500m too, though by the end I was so tired I felt like I might have to walk the last lap rather than swim it.

The pest control people come tomorrow. Is it too much to hope that they'll bring a giant vacuum that will suck up all rats in the vicinity and take them away?

zub ~ grouphug.gif love and healing to you.  I want to gently suggest waiting at least one cycle.  I got pregnant immediately after my m/c and ended up m/cing again.  My doctor said it was because the endometrial lining just wasn't thick enough yet after the first loss to sustain a second pregnancy.

RM ~ how's your husband doing???

lab ~ take all the motivation you need!!!!

mommajb ~ ditto on the 5 kids thing!  Don't be too hard on yourself.

RR ~ sadly, none, since I was coughing all night again.

NRR ~ Today is crazy with camp and groceries, and the chiro and piano lessons, and open gymnastics.  Time to put on my soccer-mom hat, yet again.  Must go wake up my kids and get them ready to go!

Moving and coping:  I'm a basket case every time we move. Whether I have two kids or no kids. I think it's highly personal. Eat more chocolate, run more and soon it will find a groove.

RM: I hope your dh is ok!

Muffin recipe is here

http://homespunliving.blogspot.com/2007/07/garden-goodness.html

I adore cherries. My dh, not so much. Left out cherries.

Zub, hug2.gifcandle.gif

I'm so sorry, mama. Sending you lots of light and prayers and hugs. I echo JayGee's gentle suggestion (about waiting a cycle). It's very hard to do that... I did find that once I had a D&C with my miscarriages, the leveling out of the hormones helped some. The sadness didn't go away but that feeling of being under a heavy blanket did. Hugs, mama.

Mommajb, I am with you on the moving stress. We finally move in this weekend and I just find the whole thing extremely anxiety provoking. It's all good in the long run but the getting in, getting unpacked, getting settled...etc. is just so overwhelming. My stomach is in knots and I am very scatterbrained.

Not a great run this morning...my stomach is really bothering me and I have been terrible about avoiding gluten lately. I need to eat clean starting NOW. It really bothers me, I don't know why I do that. Stress and lack of motivation to find something for myself that works, I guess...

Zub ~ I am so sorry.  I just want to hold you in person, bring you tea, and play with R so you can have time to rest and process.  <3

Zub, I'm so sorry about the D&C, but I'm glad that you took control of the situation and went with the option that felt the best to you.  I'm thinking of you and hoping you find healing after this devastating experience.

mommajb, I'm always telling my kids "it's not a contest."  There are a thousand people I don't measure up to every day.  Try not to fixate on Jo, who is a superstar in many ways, and think instead about how amazing you are.  I hate moving and am a basket case whenever we do it.  I plan on staying in this house we're in now until I die, just to avoid moving.

Runningmommy, how is your DH now?  What a scary thing!  I hope he is feeling better and doctors were able to figure out what was going on with him.

Ah, I'm so glad it's August!  We survived DH's birthday, I made a ridiculous cake with two kinds of ice cream and fudge and candy in it.  We spent the day at the amusement park, then went out to dinner.  And then I turned the calendar page and took a deep breath.

This month we have very little scheduled.  DD's surgery is a week from today, and after that she'll have some serious restrictions on activity.  We'll be watching lots of TV and doing lots of puzzles and art projects, I guess.

I've finally started running with a neighbor, which is awesome.  She is a bit slower than me and doesn't do as many miles, but it's invaluable to have someone I know is standing on my porch at 7:15 in the morning.  Otherwise I just don't drag myself out of bed to run.  I'm in this routine now where I run with her, come home and shower, send DH off to work around 8, then go back to bed with the kids.  They often cuddle up with me in my bed and we nap until 10.  It's so awesome.  I feel like a bit of a slacker, but isn't the summer all about unscheduled time and lazing around?  This is what I tell myself when it's 11 and we're still in our pajamas.

I'm so sorry for your loss, zub.

Thinking of you, Zub.

RM, please update! We're worried.  I hope everything is fine.

DS passed his hearing test with flying colors.  Audiologist saw lots of red flags that I don't even think about (but yes, I see them clearly, too):  "therapyized speech" (clear all his speech was taught, not learned naturally), single words come through clearly, but sentences are garbled (yes, we were discharged last year from speech over my objections on exactly this point), and that he cannot repeat words quickly - but numbers are volleyed back right away.  So off for language processing testing + pragmatic and expressive speech testing.  We got into the university clinic that specializes in language processing on a cancellation for next week.

2whistle.gif Posting 2 size medium running skirts in trading post, one a skirt sports skirt. Also putting my garmin there for $150. Spring cleaning, delayed by 4 months I guess.

Thinking of you Zub.

Geo - hoping you can make progress for you ds.  So frustrating when the system doesn't help get the job done.

LaLa - awesome to have a running partner.  I'd love to do something like that and then have snuggle time with the kids in the morning.  :)

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Made it to they Y 4 times last week!  and rode 8 miles in this ungodly heat.

This week - planning on kettlebell, Zumba, water time, biking, and back to C25K.  I'm doing a 5K the 2nd weekend in September and hope to do much better than I did last year.

NRR: I'm going out with the girls tonight for dinner and frozen yogurt.  Time to celebrate that I've made it another year on the surface. LOL

Sorry that it has taken me till now to update!  Dh took a two hour nap and was still not right at all when he woke up.  He wobbled to the bathroom, barely.  So I laid down the law and told him it was ambulance or our van but he was getting medical attention.  All day in the ER, and the more he and I talk the more I find that he didn't remember.  He has lots of chunks of missing memory from yesterday.  ER doctor wanted to either admit him or send him to the campground with heart monitor, or we could drive home to his cardiology appt that was already scheduled.  We packed up the camper and I pulled it home last night for the first time.  Truth be told I could have cared less about the camper and just set the cruise to get us home.  Three hour drive, no stopping, and made dh pee in a cup, lol.  Got home around 11:30 last night.  Called doc first thing this morning and they bumped up the appointment for tomorrow at least.  So I am making dh lay low today.  He is much better than yesterday but still not completely good and something has been going on.  THe hospital thinks he might have had a heart issue and said he was dehydrated although we wonder about that.  His heart rate kept going in the 40's when he would fall asleep and setting off the alarm.  He had indigestion on the way to the hospital as well as double vision, nausea, dizziness.

I'll let you know more tomorrow.

Alex~my heart goes out to you.

Geo~you are the mac~daddy of the Mom!

Lisa~that's the hospital we were at !!!  LOL!!!

RR: 6 glorious miles on my TM today

kerc~good luck with the move! I despise moving too, so I totally feel you. In the last 11 years I've (only?) moved 5 times and I hated it every time. And that's always been kid-free!

RM~thanks for the update. Still sounds very scary. Glad you insisted that he get medical attention, and that you were able to move the appointment up a day. Crossing my fingers that everything works out well for your family.

So DH came home last night with the good news that he got a raise--a dollar an hour! Hooray! So We talked about adjusting our automatic savings plan to take the entire extra $200/month and put it right into savings. But he mentioned my birthday coming up in October, and told me to go ahead and order the Garmin 305 that I've had my eye on. I'm so excited. I'm a little bit neurotic and obsessed with details and planning things and tracking trends over time etc etc, so this little gadget is going to be right up my alley.

I got up early (for me) at 7AM and went for a run around 8:30.  Man I hate running in the morning. I can never get out early enough to really beat the heat, and I hate the sun in my eyes but I also hate running with sunglasses on. But anyhow, I did it. 3.3 miles (according to mapmyrun.com) in 29:01:32 (according to DH's phone) My first mile took 8:20 and then I slowed way down on a stretch without any shade. Then my last mile was just under 9 minutes. I'm a bit slower than I was before my recent month of laziness, so I'm hoping that once I'm regularly back at it the kinks will work themselves out. The Santa Monica 5000 10K is in 9 weeks and I'm really hoping to finish around 55 minutes. Maybe I'm being a bit too ambitious for my first race, though?

Garmin has been ordered and should be here tomorrow! Thanx Amazon prime.

Whew!  I'm back!

Alex - My heart goes out to you.  Please be gentle and kind to yourself.  This is when I wish we had a real life commune.  So we could all get together to hug, cry, talk, laugh and process life together.

RM - Yikes!!!  I'm glad he finally got to a hospital, but am a little alarmed they just let him go!  I hope the appointment goes well tomorrow.  Please keep us updated!

I know I'm missing tons of personals, but I'm way behind.  We just got back a couple of hours ago.  Unfortunately, missed all dingo meet up possibilities.  The trip was amazing, but fraught with complications.  We had the car break down (it got E85 in it from a mismarked gas pump.  Kum and Go in Mesa Colorado has a lot to answer for), I got a stye, had a flat tire at the end, camping reservation snafus, kinked necks, etc.  But, in the end, we had a wonderful time together, saw amazing things, and really bonded as a family.  DH has a MRI on Thursday to see if he tore his rotater cuff or some other part of his shoulder.  He injured it before the trip, and the doctor said it could wait till after.  I ran exactly once during the trip.  But, it was 3 miles along the rim of the Grand Canyon, so it was well worth it!  We did do a ton of hiking, though, so were active pretty much all day long, every day we weren't driving.  The kids were absolute champs for the heroic drives we were doing. It is very, very good to be home, though.  All that is missing now is my dogs!  We'll get them tomorrow!

Anyway, missed you ladies, and happy to be back in and among you!  blowkiss.gif

Blog post on day two of the Courage Classic is now up HERE!

I'm waiting for my sister, BIL, and the kiddos to show up. They should have been here a few hours ago, but apparently BIL's father is somewhere in podunk Nebraska, so they detoured to go have dinner with him and it turned into him insisting on taking them to see a missile silo and touring them around Podunk, NE. rolleyes.gif After convincing them to detour to Podunk by telling them he was only an hour and a half from Denver. FYI, there is nowhere in Nebraska that is only an hour and a half from Denver. So DS is bouncing off the walls, because of course I can't convince him to go to sleep when his cousin is going to be here any minute...

rr~spin class/hamster wheel brick before DS's swim lesson at the Y. Probably nada tomorrow, since we're off to sightsee around Colorado Springs and take the train up Pike's Peak...

Alex, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. You and your family are definitely in my thoughts today. hug2.gif

RM, thank goodness he was checked out and will be seen soon. Keep us updated.

Gaye, I can't wait to read your new post!

Kitteh, welcome! You're going to love the Garmin. It's so fun to keep track of mileage, speed, HR... I don't really think that your goal sounds unrealistic given that the conditions will be cooler, race-day adrenaline, and it seems like your training is already in the sub-9 area.

Bec, welcome home! That trip sounds fantastic. But please tell me that there isn't really a gas station called that.lol.gif and disappointed.gif !

Well, I made an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon to consult about my knee pain that is not going away. The more I think about it, the more I believe that it is directly related to running on the beach that one miserable 5k a few weeks ago. It just does not seem to be changing or improving despite lots of ice and anti-inflammatories. I'm truly hoping that this is not a new meniscus injury or some kind of symptom that can not be "cured".

RR: swimming yesterday was great, 40 min for a mile despite breaks! I hope I didn't miscount my laps, but it was a great workout anyway. And bike trainer today.
