NYS versus PA - Exemptions

Hello -

We currently live in NYS (which is notoriously hard to become exempt in), but we live near the border of PA (well not near near, but a reasonable distance). We were wondering if some PA and NY parents could tell us their experiences getting an exemption for school. NYS has introduced a bill to add a philosophical exemption and I keep trying to get everyone I know to call their assembly person and senator, but I have read some decisions recently where school officials have denied religious exemptions because they felt they were 'insincere.' I think it is kind of craptastic that an individual who doesn't know a thing about you can say your beliefs are insincere. I guess what I want to know is if it is easier in PA. We are strongly contemplating home schooling as well. Even though it is a few years away for us we want to be prepared especially since we want to have at least one more baby. Thanks in advance!

PA still is easier than NY but (as I posted in selective vaccine section awhile ago) I could see PA change to be more like NY---in my area there are lots of NYC workers (not to mention NJ) that commute and I had a conversation with a teacher that was in horror of the PA laws (and clearly wanted them more in-line with NY)-thus she wouldn't be around such "germy kids who's parents don't know better (to vaccinate)!!!"

PA has other things to consider-we do have much lower taxes but if you are talking about the upper part of PA we do certainly have ISSUES------"Marcellus Shale" (all void of taxes!! and a nightmare for the local counties)- that is a reason we are looking to move to NY - regardless of the vaccine issues
