For the 2011-2012 school year ( name ) will be studying the following curriculum. The scope and sequence of each will be primarily self-motivated and directed.

Language Arts, including Reading, Handwriting, Spelling, Vocabulary, Keyboarding Skills, and Introduction to Spanish Language

Mathematics, including Arithmetic, Geometry, and Economics

Sciences, including Biology, Geography, Ecology, Physics, and Astronomy

Virginia, American, and World Histories.

Child-initiated interests in Art, Music, Athletics, and Personal Development will be facilitated and encouraged through out the year as well.

In pursuing these studies we will be utilizing one on one instruction, text and workbooks, audio-visual media, field trips, libraries, and other resources we find useful.

Seems fine to me, mine is similar. I don't know the regulations for Virginia, so, as long as you have included all the required portions, it should be fine. I tend to remove the words "scope and sequence" cause the rub me the wrong way, but they are totally acceptable.

Good luck!

Mine was pretty simple like that, but instead of putting the unschooling/ child led wording you chose, I went with saying we would be doing "fourth grade appropriate work" in Art ect. Just because I thought the school teacher types reviewing the NOI would like it better, and a friend here suggested it. This is also my first year in Va.

Yes, that's a good suggestion.  I  included some of the scope & sequence that's in some of the workbooks I thought my kids might use, but really that's probably too much information.  I think that I'll go with something much shorter this year.
